Or use some kind of blender and saucepan and save money on something that will be used twice and be put at the back of the cupboard

ive got the morphy richards one that looks like this and it keeps switching off

They switch off if your ingredients are burning onto the base of the soup maker. Try putting your stock or water in first as this may help.

+1 for the blender and saucepan idea. This is a pointless kitchen gadget that will be gathering dust within weeks.

I make soup all the time but have never felt the need to buy anything like this.

There's nothing that beats freshly made soup and your way of making is a very good one. There's varying degrees of "can't be arsed" so this has it's place. For me you would be correct, it will be left never to be seen again and back to the tinned soup for me.

We have the same one and the same problem. We returned it yesterday and got a replacement as we were impressed with it. The replacement did the same, so we phoned the customer help line and apparently it overheats when things get stuck to the bottom. We were putting the liquid in first and there is no way around it sticking - you can't stir it for example. So we boiled everything up in a pan and then used the hand blender - the Morphy Richards will be going back today - great concept but can't be doing with it switching itself off!
