No one said it was healthy but it's okay for a treat.

They used to actually be quite like a cake, instead of gloop... back in the days when bakers wrote the recipes, and not accountants

The main ingredient is glucose-fructose syrup. So chances are you'll eat the whole thing since it blocks the fullness signal from reaching your brain. Clever McVities. ;)

Heat for the price.

yes it is, tho tescos site (for me anyways since it would be based on post code and stock levels) links to "Sorry, this product is currently not available", so might not last long in stores either

Nice one Tesco, get rid of having sweets by the checkouts to help 'us' lose weight, and then chuck in an extra three ginger cakes when we only need one! lol

I don't understand why people are saying it's a bad offer because the food is unhealthy! Its still a good offer.

Its a good offer.
And if you are hard up (some families have to get their food from food banks), then his is great as it provides calories (prevents starvation).

However, if you are not suffering from starvation, then this is junk food in its purest form.
The real crack cocaine of junk food is M+Ms peanut. Those things are lethal and I swore 2 years ago I would never have those again.

In saying all this, I do like the replies to vanezia's comment.

I will also add that many years ago I did eat this cake and 1/10th of a cake is NOT a slice. I'd say 1/4 cake is 1 slice. So if you are trying to calculate the nutrition on this badboy, use quarter cake as a single serving guideline.

I b-bet it's n-n-never been anywhere near J-Jamaica.

Well we sell Mars Bars, don't we?

Be careful ginger doesn't count as one of your five a day. Have this with a sliced banana to make it a health food.

Why don't people just pass deals by that they don't like without making stupid comments?! Soon enough it will be just the "trolls" on this site picking faults on everything they possibly can find and talking s***e cos everyone else will be fed up finding deals and posting them here for stupid negative comments!!

On another note, good find op, heat added.

Great Nigel Slater recipe for a fast gloriously calorific pudding:

Take 1 loaf type Jamaican ginger cake (eg McVities) and slice into about 8 slices in a gratin dish - or individual ones.

For the sauce:
50g/2oz butter
110g/4oz soft brown sugar
110g/4oz golden syrup
Combine the above in a saucepan, melt over gentle heat until sugar is dissolved. Let bubble for 5 mins.

Add few drops vanilla extract

150ml/5floz double cream and stir in

Pour over cake slices and heat in 190/gas 5 oven for about 15 mins.
