Searched both Dell sites too. No sign.

Click through to dell small business via "go to deal" link then use drop down box to find 430 desktops, its second from left on the page

How does this compare to the 430 deals we saw a month or so back? I didn't want to get one as it was the old tax year, but now its the new I can expense a PC again.

Whats the £75 Google Adwords voucher about, didn't see that when customizing?
#7
Mike any idea what the "*" refers to on the GPU?

My guess is it's relates to a disclaimer that it may be shipped with a G210 as the G310 is just a re-branded G210 with display port.

You could be right as they have been doing that as and when they have stocks of each I believe.

Why has it got (glitch), is this a misprice?

Is this better than those back to back 430 deals of about a month ago?

Its a glitch as the 30 day trial is usually free but they are dropping the price by £20 + VAT for removal. Not really a misprice though it amounts to the same I guess.

This isnt in the same value range as the 430 deals before as they had a -£90 coupon to use with the deal.

Possibly 5%quidco / 6% topcashback?

iirc the last (rather good) deal was for the 430 with i7 (60 more here) and after cashback came to about 400.
The price now is about 440

Thanks for that. I'll bide my time for a repeat offer then.

Whats the 'upgradability' like on this?

I see thaey want £150 to upgrade the GPU to one that seems to cost about £70 soi I could DIY to that, but will this MB take a one of the Rad 5 series DX11 capable GPU's (appreciate I will need to upgrade the PSU, and am happy to do so.

Basicly im looking for a budget mid range gaming unit (Settlers 7,. Eve onine and the yet to be released Star Wars MMORG (if it isnt pants!)

Remember anyone thinking of buying these dell pcs that they are custom build parts and items such as PSU graphic cards etc will require to be purchased direct from dell or via one of their part resellers as they are modified by dell or component companys.

I used to work for Dell and amount of folk thinking they could go into a shop and buy parts off the shelf and phoning up complaining when that did not happen was huge!!! Remember dell add on can be upwards of 50% markup for parts and thats me under stating things!!!

Most folk in forum may already know this but just trying to help those that may not know.

They use standard graphic cards and power supplies these days.

So anyone have any ideas if my thoughts can be turned into possibility?

Doe Dell use custom Ram, or can I upgrade to 3g, by just putting another stick in?

Sorry for being a bit dim but ive never understood these deals completely so can someone help me out?

This is labelled a small business but how does that work if I want to buy one retail as it were? I dont have a business unfortunately but like the looks of this deal :)

Thanks!
#23
There is no problem purchasing from small business area of dell as a normal consumer.
I purchased a laptop under this a few years ago without a problem.

You will have slightly reduced consumer rights though, including no rights to return goods under the sale of goods act.

price comes to 384 + VAT for me ?

That would be true (by only a few pounds) if you can build your own 12 months warranty and your own operating system!

No, if you upgrade this to the same spec. it is around £55 more expensive.

please post a config anywhere near this for that price

no chance - I build all my own PCs -b ut no chance you can build one for that price - 70 disappears straight away for the OS

but please have a go :)

I've got a higher specification Vostro 430 and its pretty quiet. Its not "can't hear its on" quiet, but its certainly not "vacuum cleaner" noisy. The sound of the fans on the power supply and CPU are about as loud as the hard disks.
#30
if u buy from the small business dept they wont take it back if u dont like it, that option is only on home stuff so make sure u like it...lol

yeah right. :whistling:
Just for starters:

CPU - £158
Mem- £45
OS - £76
MB - £50
Hard Drive - £30

Total : £359 so £20 to buy a case, powrer supply, keyboard, mouse, DVD writer and a graphics card. Good luck.

Well I for one do not know this! I was considering purchasing a Dell inspiron; so are you saying that if I buy a Dell I will not be able to add a second SATA hard drive, or add extra ram, change the GPU or PSU or are you just scaremongering?

I realise that some years ago some makers did use bespoke parts but from what I have read Dell use pretty standard parts these days, if anyone knows differently I would be pleased to hear before I buy. :)
[mod]#35
Scaremonger, most parts are now standard and readily changable.

You used to work for Dell, did you? How long ago was it when Dell (according to yourself) custom built the parts? What year was it when Dell had non-standard connectors (and this is not the same as custom built parts). Stop insulting people here with your lies. On this site we have trainee solicitors who do not know the sale of goods act, a forensic scientist who thinks overwritten memory bits in flash memory can be recovered like a hard disc, and now a former Dell employee advising to buy non standard custom built parts.

What Dell have done is to modify BIOSes and Vendor ID strings on hardware so that generic drivers may not work. It forces the user to download drivers for some devices from Dell's site, eg. 355 Bluetooth drivers. Nothing to do with custom built hardware.

ok would you care to backup that statement with some evidence?

no i thought not. i really wish people would stop spouting rubbish

the cpu alone on this is £158. dell might not be everyones cup of tea but they do offer some good value systems

Plenty of people upgrading GPU's, Hard drives, Memory, etc, all over the net, no real issuies reported any where!?

Why do people talk such cack on this forum?

Why do people talk cack? Good question. It's not such an issue when misinformed comments are made but blatant mendaciousness is downright insulting. Maybe it's an attempt to act as a prominent centrepiece (not sure if that answers your question). For those who have been put off from buying upgrades for Dell computers, there are no technological issues at all.

I question I'm interested to know (eh? lol) is have we reached a point with onboard graphics yet were they're powerful to run UT99 in all its glory?!

I know UT99 even at launch claimed it would run on any system.....run being the operative word! Anyway back in 2002 my system had a 64mb Radeon 8500LE which was more than capable for UT99. Then again when I upgraded my PC to a Dell Vostro 200 in 2008, the onboard GFX worked ok but didnt show UT quite at its best, hard to describe it but on moving textures, like flames, there was like a faint pixelled/dot matrix feel to them, i.e it wasn't the normal smooth flame look I was used too!

Heh so as my old card was AGP, I needed a PCI-E one and got an 8600GT, total overkill I know but it meant I could dabble with UT3....which quickly wore off.

So back to my point which...ooooops I've just googled the GFX on this PC deal and found it's actually a PCI-E card *wipes egg off* but I'm gonna plod on..

...to my point which is: What are the onboard GFX on this PC, and would they run UT99 in all its glory like any proper PCI-E card from the last 5-7 years would? Or is chip similar to the onboard on my Vostro 200 :/
