GNER don't run from Scarborough to Sheffield so you're probably scuppered

Maybe thinking of TPE?

Scarborough is naff anyway. ;-)
Many, many thanks to OP. Managed to get 4 tickets to York and back for the fabulous sum of £40. My boys are really excited and looking forward to their special day out.

I am slightly confused too - and no, I don't need a lie-down - I am attempting to book a return from London to Scarborough. I take it there is no guarantee that I will get a first class voucher and as I am travelling on the 16th Nov, there isn't enough time to receive voucher and reserve comp first class travel. Right?

Hi WoodyRocks - you need to spend £15 on normal tickets. Once you've booked there's a link in the confirmation e-mail that lets you claim the free first class voucher for travel in January and February on the GNER route (not Scarborough though!). If you're spending £30 try adn split it into two separate bookings so that you can get two first class tickets
I thought the 1st class voucher could only be used 4th Jan to 4th Feb 2008.

This is not just an improved online booking discount but they have released more seats at the cheaper prices. For instance, Ive just managed to book for York-London out on a Friday afternoon and returning on a Monday am at only £10 each way. These peak seats are never available at that price normally.

Heat given for the pointer

Is this over? :-(

Link is dead at least.
Great find- just booked me & hubby for a nice day out for £20.00!
Leeds-London in just over 2 hours- no traffic jams- excellent

Without any information on when exactly you want to travel I don't know how you expect me to help you. Book early and the cheaper the ticket will get, buy two singles - it could work out cheaper.

The point I'm trying to make is - the earlier you book the cheaper it will be.

Nope. I want a season ticket (as in a ticket commuters use every day) from Huddersfield to Manchester Airport. It was £50 odd a week or £218 a month.

Becksdawe

Why don't you call again and speak to a different person - not happy with the quote? Ask them to find a cheaper alternative - be it buying a railcard or whatever.
I asked them again yesterday, and tonight checked TPE's website and they are all the same price.

Railcards are not something I know much about? What kind of discounts on rail fares can they give?
Becksdawe

If you don't like the price, don't use the transport. But I do believe that London - Leeds for a fiver is a great price!!!

This £5 Leeds to London offer is great, for sure, there is no question about that.

But using the trains regularly in this country is NOT cheap. It is hardly surprising people drive. I reckon if the government want people to use public transport, they have to do something about the escalating costs.

And just what, may I ask, has that got to do with anything? If you can't be constructive or informative don't bother posting:x

Thanks to the original poster, great deal and voted hot.

ha ha. lol. its randomly uptight people like this that could do with being dropped off in ls6 on mischief night. that should loosen them up ;)

Thanks for your reply.

A open return is almost certainly not £13.50!! Saver return is £16 odd, so open return will be more than that. :-)

A cheap day return ticket is £13.50, but I don't think those can be used before 0930.

I asked in the ticket office last week, and he quoted me the £218 for the season ticket. Surely there must be a cheaper ticket?!

The cost of trains in this country is outrageous. In Italy I was using Eurostar all over the country for 30EUR!

This heart-warming deal is available on our lowest Standard Advance Fares and First Advance Fares for trips taken between 29 December 2006 and 11 March 2007 inclusive.

But get your skates on: this special seasonal offer is only available to book on or between 28 December 2006 and 6 January 2007. Book now!

And don’t forget to check out our other great offers, listed right.

When can I book?

Bookings open on Thursday, 28 December 2006 and close on Saturday, 6 January 2007 inclusive. There will also be limited availability when major events are taking place. You must book at latest the day before travel.

When can I travel?

You can travel between Friday, 29 December 2006 and Sunday, 11 March 2007 inclusive.

Seats are available on off-peak services, with limited availability on Friday and Sunday afternoons. There will also be limited availability when major events are taking place.

Please note that engineering work will take place on some weekends during this promotion and may affect journey times. Please click here for more information.

How do I book?

To qualify for the 20% discount you must click here to book

Seats are available on off-peak services, with limited availability on Friday and Sunday afternoons. There will also be limited availability when major events are taking place.

You must book the day before outward travel. Seats are subject to availability, so please book early to avoid disappointment. At these great prices we are expecting the biggest demand for travel at weekends—if you can travel mid-week you will have more choice.

If you require space for a wheelchair or have access requirements during your journey, please call our dedicated Assisted Travel Team on 08457 225 225 before you book »

To give you greater choice and flexibility, tickets are sold as single fares, allowing you to choose the lowest available prices for every stage of your journey. For example, you can select the promotional fare on the outward journey and, if the return train of your choice is unavailable, you can select the best fare shown. This mix-and-match option will give you even more opportunities to travel at a great price.

Major credit, debit and charge cards are accepted as payment. No booking fee with GNER.

Click here for a step-by-step guide to how to book this great offer. Remember, these fares are sold as single fares.

Offer is in Standard Class only. No upgrades to First Class will be allowed.

What are the terms and conditions?

We believe these tickets offer excellent value for money. In order to provide attractively priced fares, we have to attach a small number of conditions in addition to those in the National Rail Conditions of Carriage booklet (available at stations and rail-appointed Travel Agents).

It is essential that you read these terms and conditions carefully, as you will be charged the full open fare if you haven't purchased the correct ticket for your journey.

Web Discounted Fares:
Online discounted fares are only available when accessed via www.gner.co.uk,
Your ticket is only valid for the date, GNER train(s) and reserved seat(s) shown on your ticket(s), plus those of appropriate connecting Train Companies.

Changes to travel plans:
These are permitted up until the time of departure of the first reserved train shown on your ticket(s). After this time, your ticket has no value and a new ticket must be purchased.

Changes to tickets cannot be made on-train. A new ticket must be purchased if you board a GNER train without a ticket and reservation for that service.

Changes to a Standard/First Advance ticket can be made online via the Web Support team, including upgrades to First Class. Changes to tickets can also be made at most staffed stations. A change is allowed provided the origin and destination are the same and travel is still by GNER for all or part of the journey. Changes can be brought forward by any number of weeks, or put back as far ahead as the reservation system is open (normally around 10 weeks).

For each change that you make, you may have to pay an additional charge, up to the appropriate fare for your new journey, plus a change fee of £10 per single ticket. If you change onto a train where a cheaper fare is available, the difference will not be refunded. Please remember that you will need to present your ticket(s) and reservation(s) when you request your change.

You must travel with GNER for the main part of your journey. Your ticket cannot be changed to travel on any other Train Company's services for this part of the journey. You may not break and resume your journey at an intermediate station except to change to/from appropriate connecting trains where these are shown on your ticket(s) or other official itinerary.

Your ticket is non-refundable, should you decide not to use it. If the GNER train on which you are reserved is cancelled or delayed by more than 60 minutes, special arrangements will be made to accommodate you on another train (although a seat cannot be guaranteed), or to refund your ticket provided your journey has not yet commenced.

GNER First Advance tickets do not entitle access to GNER First Class Lounges at stations.

Brilliant find, thanks a lot ! :D
Many thanks for this great find.

I've managed to get a weekend booking from London to Edinburgh and a mid-week one from London to Newcastle - two places that I want to visit.

The usual GNER special ticket prices are very good value, but with an extra 10% off it makes them even better.
