A word of warning with these. Check the price elsewhere before you buy, their RRP's are galactic on many items.

Good point about checking prices, however they will beat others prices by 10%. Did that the other week with some meindl boots that were cheaper at blacks and they matched their free delivery.

See what you mean... just had a look through

They'll only give you the 10% if you have one of their rip off 'discount' cards and will take the cost of the card from your 10%. They also won't take postage into account.
#7
do you use the discount card online as well as in the shop? I only want a couple of things but want to know if they have my size first can you normally add to basket to check stock before you have a card and/or go into the shop without one? Is there P&P?

Sorry for all the questions :)

thanks.

I have always found Go Outdoors to be the cheapest on products i have needed in the past. I remember once on here someone listed a Craghoppers sale and it got voted hot into the 300+ degrees and nearly every item was still cheaper at Go Outdoors.

Not impressed with this company. Rip off rrp's and that stupid discount card is a rip off too. Just sell the stuff cheap in the first place without charging for the privilege!

I agree. I nearly bought a rucksack from them - reduced from £140 to $70 - Found the identical item on the internet for £40 delivered

They're overpriced anyway so my advice is don't go outdoors.

Go Outdoors do not set the RRP

agreed watch out for the rip off RRP i think they make them up as they go along

It's funny because I recently went to one of their stores to take advantage of the "50% off for just one day" offer, only to get home and find that the £70 worth of stuff I bought could be found online for pretty much the same price, and cheaper on some occasions.

there's quite a lot of "instoor only" labels printed in that brochure - it's not particularly clear what will be available online.

I just check on my iphone as I go along and tell them when I get to checkout. Then they beat every price by 10%. I've never had a problem doing this and sometimes get more than 10% off when they can't be bothered to work it out!

I've saved over £160 in Go Outdoors in the past 12 months alone using a membership card when buying ski wear, and it's not far from where I work so I'm more than pleased with the place. The staff are always helpful and friendly too - sorted :-)

They've always got an £x million clearance sale on.

Perhaps they shouldnt buy so much carp in the first place.

It's more of a loyalty card than a discount card but I take peoples point. However, it's far from a rip off if you're choosy about what you buy. Last year we bought a six man tent that was at least £20 cheaper as a member than anyone online for the same product which means that we got the 'loyalty' card discount back. I think rip off is far too strong a word as they are good when they have offers on. There are plenty more rip off companies about such as PCWorld, but again they're okay when they have specials on. The loyalty card is a marketing tool but we all have a choice whether to use it or not or to shop online. I would guess that most people are savvy enough to decide whether to get a card or not with all the competition online. Amazing as it seems, all retailers make a profit out of us when we buy - how dare they, rip off merchants!

Yep. It's only a rip-off if you don't make good use of it. I've price matched more or less everything I bought from them meaning I get it 10% cheaper than anywhere online. £5 well spent in my opinion. As for the 50% off day I got a Diamondback Peak HD for £225. If you can find it cheaper elsewhere I would be interested to know. I know it's only 50% off RRP but the price I paid was significantly cheaper than elsehwere. Then there were Berghaus Explorer Ridge boots for £55 on New Years Day. Beat that price and I will eat my own boots! Paramo Velez trousers were about £100 during their 20% Paramo week - again beat that price please.

Play the game or feel cheated. Up to you.

The clued Buttler Urban 100 @ £139 is 25 cheaper than the next cheapest on-line price

why are ALL the trousers in regular no short or long? Do they have more choice in store?

Some thoughts on good buys (and not so good), from a Millets employee:

Hi-Tec Kruger Walking Boots - £19.99

These aren't a bad buy. We've had the Kruger II (not much different) for as low as £23.99 once before, but generally these retail at £50 to £60.

Hi-Tec Altitude Luxe Wpi Walking boots - £59.97

These use Ion Mask waterproofing, and although it suffered in the early days, I've sold a fair few of these to a fair few happy customers and not had any complaints so far (*touch wood*). I seem to recall Trail magazine rated them quite highly too. They're £99.99 normally, but they have been down to £79.99 before.

Berghaus Explorer Trek Boots - £69.99

Try them! I have the 'Explorer Light' boots, and I adore them. I don't think is a bad price at all.

Walker Trekking Pole - £3

I don't know what these are going to be like, but could be a cheap way to try walking poles. If you do buy, buy two and try them as a pair. They claim to be anti-shock, I'd try this out if you're buying in store! Children tend to play with these and break them... Our equivalents are £19.99 each, so I'd be interested to see how they compare.

Merrel Chameleon Wrap Slam - £69.60

Not particularly impressive price! These have been £44.99 at Millets recently, but are now back up to £64.99. If you do buy, bare in mind these normally size small. So if you're normally a 9, buy a 10. This is from my experience anyway.

If you're looking at the waterproofs, try comparing with similar jackets at http://www.mandmdirect.com. They have quite a few Berghaus bargains there!

Just my thoughts anyway. I

As always with GO very limited stock in store, the Xmas deal mega sale of which one item was promoted constantly had only 2 of each size in stock,,, good price if you get in early!
