With Zavvi being in adminstration now they have a minimum of 20% off everything except Video Game Hardware.

I picked up a few BluRay deals today in Exeter Zavvi.

Godfather Trilogy BluRay - £23.99
Matrix Trilogy Bluray - £19.99

Alot of their BluRays are now priced at £14.99, so with the VAT Reduction and 20% off you can pick them up for £11.99 as I picked up No Country For Old Men for this price.

So many priced up at £14.99 that I won't list them all!

I have searched for these being submitted but couldn't find them, if there is just 1 topic for all deals from Zavvi like this I am sorry.

I have included a photo of my receipt with the prices on for the Godfather and Matrix Trilogy's.

Why would you buy these on blue ray when they weren't shot in HD? Genuine question.
#2
I have blueray rips of the goodfather and it looks awesome! Untill you have seen it then dont comment. Most things from years ago where done on tape so would be high quality anyway.
#3
The picture & sound quality is better in the BluRay versions even if they weren't shot in HD, I don't own the DVD versions and for £5 extra I think it's worth the extra money as all the films have been remastered.

I have been looking at reviews of both the Godfather films and Matrix films and all them have said that the transfer to BluRay is excellent.

So the little money I have paid extra is worth it I think considering I didn't own them on DVD.

They were shot in hd. Most films are shot in much higher res than bluray.

Yes. I agree. If you do some research on the web then you will find that some old films can look great on blu-ray. However I do recommend reading reviews online before purchasing certain blu-rays. That way you'll know if the blu-ray is worth paying extra compared to a dvd.

Film is much higher quality than 1080!

I can imagine the Godfather transferred from film to digital looks amazing. Wish I had a PS3 now :(

My mate picked the trilogy at woolies in Brighton pre christmas for £15.00 but only one in the shop :-(
#10
any one no if this nationwide if so anyone seen any around in manchester?
#11
Damn, I was standing in Zavvi (Milton Keynes) today thinking "What DVDs do I want?", and all I could remember was the extended edition of The Return of the King. If I'd spotted the Matrix Trilogy on Blueray I would have bought it ... "hmm, can I be bothered to go back". :p
#12
Picked my Matrix trilogy blu ray up in Woolies for £14 but at £20 its still £10-£20 cheaper than anywhere else. Its a great trilogy to test out your blu ray setup! :) May pop to cardiff zavvi to see if they have any goodies for me. :)

A good site to check for Bluray reviews, with comparison shots, is http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/compare.htm

this would be great, if I could get a decent quality picture from my new Blu-ray player :(

voted hot....but wishing we had a zavvi store close by
#21
The Godfather Trilogy isn't just a re-release, they've chemically treated the original film source to restore it to as near as original quality for colour and clarity, so they had a better image than they ever had for VHS and DVD mastering.

Sadly I already have it on blu ray and the no zavvi outlots within 20 miles. :x

These offers are shakey, but awesome non the less.

I managed to get Batman Begins and Dark Knight Bluray Box set for £26, was really looking for the matrix

Some films are £14.99 before the 20% off which is great, but youll really need to go and browse to find the best deals, dont get your hopes up on here.

And the film is recaptured in HD from film, so they are still great!
#26
I watched my HD Mad Max 2 on my new TV last week was blown away by how awesome it looked. Didn't realise it was on Blu-Ray as well. Any sign of the 1st film?

Also is The Matrix still the same cut version or have they finally released it uncut now?

Hiya mate, was in Cardiff Zavvi on Saturday and clocked the Bond set at around £85 before 20% discount.

In regards to main topic, Bluray Godfather was still up for £38 pre discount.

Films are (generally) shot on 35mm film, and contain far more information than even BD can deliver.

It's weird as I picked this up Exeter Zavvi and was markedu p at £29.99, I was in my local Zavvi store in Taunton today and it's marked up at £39.99. Odd.
#31
plus the Spiderman Trilogy was £29.99 reduced to around £23.99.
#32
Think I will pick up iron man at that price, but give bond and pirates a miss because both are cheaper online and still to expensive online anyway.

Thanks

#34
Hi. Does anyone know if you still get 10% in Zavvi using a Virgin credit card?

Just an added bonus if it's still applicable.

I bought the Matrix and Godfather Box sets in Cardiff on Friday for £20/£23. Fantastic deal, and they had loads there at the time. Also, managed to get a copy of the Ratatouille/Pixar Shorts boxset for £17.59. Not as cheap as someone else mentioned on here, but as they are about £12 each now (£15 before discount, I thought it was a good deal.

I'd reccomend a lot of people checking the sale out ask the staff for the prices. The Ratatouille boxset was priced at £33, but checked anyway and found out it was much cheaper. However I saw a bunch of blu rays prices differantly for the same film, and I'm sure they try to charge you the price on the ticket of the one you pick up. I bought Animatrix for £16, only to see it marked up at £14.99 elsewhere in the store, not including the 20% discount!
#36
Anyone know when they plan to go for a 50% discount???

Yeah, was wondering if they were going to go for a Woolworths-type approach to the sale. Mind you at £11 for most Blu Rays I'd be surprised (and gutted after spending a ton there friday) to see them go any lower.
#38
Might be better off waiting for the higher discounts but the problem is people panic buy like they did at woolies so the selection gets less. Gotta get to 50-90% sooner or later unless they get saved. Is branson still lending them £5m every so often?
