Ordered these, unfortunately they didn't arrive after two weeks so I went on their live chat and messaged them and they kindly offered me a replacement for up to £19.95 value so effectively got a nicer pair of sunglasses for this price. Heat!
Arrived two days ago. Made in Pakistan apparently - works fine, comfortable, and lens edge finish no different to high street offerings.
Got some codes today from their newsletter, put them in Vouchers, may be useful for those on the fence about ordering -

2For10UK (£6.95 frames, strong RX charges apply) or 30OFF (storewide, includes designer frames).
Just ordered semi rimless from SelectSpecs (£35.90 inc postage) as a spare pair but Superdrug opticians looks really good too as good pair with super thin lenses and all the coatings & case is £64 (free delivery). Forget high street rip offs.....

I've used these loads, never had a problem, and the glasses have all lasted a couple of years without any faults.

The major impediment to using online glasses retailers is IMO the PD (Pupillary Distance) measurement, which is notoriously hard to get correct if doing it yourself.... oO
I asked an optician to measure them for me. Simples :)

Not sure my ones would do that - they give all the other specs (sic) on the form but not P D - probably 'cos a lot of people ask for it & then go online instead of buying off them :|

Found it quite simple for me to mark pupil centres on existing glasses then measure between marks. As a check, I had a friend hold measuring ruler against my face and note p-p distance. Both arrived at same result. Suppose that theory may fall flat if face is not symetrical but I should be OK cos I don't have any resemblence to elephant man.

For those who said the lenses were blurry. Did you give the correct pupillary distance? I've heard if it's slightly off it can cause eye strain.
Yeh I've had glasses made by other places using the same prescription that work fine.

not with the firm I used .
this lot recommend you use a ruler and a mirror lol

LOL yeah its not the most high tech but does the job, i measured mine at 62mm and my glasses are spot on.

If you mean the Pupil Distance (PD) then yes they do, its part of the online ordering form where u fill in the prescription.

I have received the email but I paid £2 delivery so I am going to have words
Have received this: "Yes, it was a tech issue and payment was missing for this pair. For sure we cannot process the order for zero worth as there was no such offer.
Thank you for your understanding."

They did offer to send them out for a payment of GBP6.00, but I declined. Oh well!
I've received an email asking for payment too.

Just had mine delivered and seem great, so very pleased. Only took just over a week to arrive and much better than expected. Have never bought glasses online before but will be doing so again. Thanks for posting.
Great price for a back up pair of glasses, especially if you know the general measurements and shape of glasses that look good on you. Fingers crossed I made the right choice on the frames!

Looks a good deal but how do you get your prescription. Do you just ask for a copy of it? Can they refuse?
The only time they may refuses if it out of date.
Yes an eyesight prescription may sound harmless, however many other things can be picked up from your eyes. So certainly worth getting a new sight test if required.
dhanepud
i dont see option for these 2:
- Full UV Protection
- Anti Scratch Coating

Neither did I, sadly :(

Even though they advertise that, they don't actually say so at the end. I contacted Select Specs about the same thing, and they said they can no longer put an effective UV coating on cheap lenses – which is strange given they also claimed in the same conversation that all the £6 glasses I had bought from them in previous years DID have an effective UV coating. When they claim that their cheap glasses do include these coatings, they are legally obliged to fulfil that at the price advertised according to SOGA, it's technically illegal for them to do otherwise. Sadly, when I wrote to Select Specs explaining this, they just avoided the issue.

Never bought glasses but pretty sure I need them now (the fact I can't see as well as I used to has tipped me off).
How does the pricing work? Are all the quoted prices just the frames or will the actual prescibed lenses be included as well?
If not, how much more are they likely to be?
Thanks for any advice.
Yes, lenses are included but even though I've used Goggles4U quite a few times, I'm not sure I'd recommend getting your first ever pair on line!

Thanks for the info.

I'll try the High Street first.

sent me glasses i couldn't see through
I used to work in an opticians and the amount of times we had customers coming in with problems cause of glasses that they had ordered online I would stick well clear of anything online as even is they do get ur prescription correct they can still mess up you lens alignment which in effect will mean that your glasses are at a different prescription. I would honestly spend a little more and then have them measured properly in an opticians. But that is just my opinion

I have used this company. Took ages to arrive because they are and American company that send to s sorting office in the uk then deliver to you. I found the frames flimsy and my prescription wrong and it was the prescription in my current glasses.
On the plus side I returned to a uk address for a refund 2 months later

What is the option ADD? I have my specsavers prescription but ADD is not returned?

 ADD
If you are over 45, there may be a number where it says ‘ADD’. This is your reading addition and relates to the amount of additional correction needed to focus at close distances. If a measurement is shown in this section, it means you have different prescriptions for distance and reading. Bifocal or varifocal lenses may be needed.

I used the 2for10 code and it worked fine.... I live in The Falklands Islands and there is NO optician.. so I used my Specsavers prescription info from when I was last in the UK.... they only charge £9.95 to deliver here, so a bargain.. 2 pairs for less than £20. We get an optician every now and then visit the island and we have to pay for the check and then HUGE amount of money for the specs... they are then sent by boat so you are waiting another 3 months or so.... :)
Used them in the past, got two pair for £14 but it took 3 months to get them as two delivery was misplaced in shipping or they never shipped. They are coming from Pakistan so easily get missed in transit
The free delivery code is "UKSHIPPING". This works out at £6.95 for one frame only. This is cheaper than the 2 for £10 with £5 delivery which works out at £7.50 per frame.
Only hassle is that you need to do separate orders for each frame you want.

**FOLLOW UP** - I actually explained this to the guy on live chat so my order could have cost £13.90 if I ordered my 2 frames separately with "UKSHIPPING" instead of together with "2FOR10" so he said he'd refund the difference.

So glad i had laser treatment. I was short sighted and had ONE eye done and now i have 20/20 vision for just £500
Lucky you only have one eye. Most people have two so that would be £1k. Plus you get 20/20 until your mid 40s.
ooh tell me more. What cages to the visual acuity in mid 40s?
I only ask as I know the answer is nothing.
Also, bit of a pet hate 20/20 is American. In the rest of the world it would be written 6/6 and is actually below average visual acuity.
Read this http://www.aoa.org/patients-and-public/good-vision-throughout-life/adult-vision-19-to-40-years-of-age/adult-vision-41-to-60-years-of-age?sso=y. Can't see the forrest for the trees.
I know people struggle with reading with age. That has nothing to do with 20/20 or 6/6 or visual acuity at all really.

You must be a lawyer. 20/20 or 6/6 is considered perfect vision. Struggling to read is not perfect vision. End of contribution from me.

a -0.25 change in prescription is one that will be noticed. Add to that that a lot of people wear their glasses all day every day - don't you think you ought to change them every year or 2? Would you expect trousers, t-shirts, underpants etc to last well under those circumstances?
Depends how often you put your glasses through a wash cycle I guess?

If you have no eye issues and just wear standard lenses then it's fine buying online if you know your prescription and your PD.
I have bought specs online after my friends - quite a few who are opticians told me about the pressures to sell specs.
I had been going to the opticians ontime and over a period of 4 years my eyesight deteriorated from -1.5 to -2.5. At this rate I thought I might go blind. The opticians said it was myopic creep - well that was complete bull.
Each year my prescription was altered by -0.25 and I bought specs.
My friends who became opticians said we need to sell specs - so they will say oh your prescription has just deteriorated slightly by -0.25 when it really hasn't then this makes you think I need new specs.
Last 15 years I have been to an optician twice and guess what - they said my eyesight had improved.
You cannot trust opticians when they have motivation to sell you spectacles and make targets.
I challenge any optician on here to refute that.
LMAO
So you were convinced to buy new specs every year for four years when according to what you say there had not been any change to prescription in reality.
Chump.

When you are told your eyesight has worsened by -0.25 and they say you need specs you will believe them if you don't know better. So yes I was taken advantage of.

Goggles4U are well worth it, if you're prepared to hunt. I have lots of pairs from there now - two that were originally from Zenni for considerably more (at the time) and a pair of tortoiseshell Clubmaster knockoffs that amaze people when I tell them the price!

They also deal with complaints well, in my experience. Don't know what's happening with the sunglass tints though - I always ordered brown and that is what I got. Recently they sent out amber lenses - I complained via Live Chat, and the replacement was also orange. Gave up after that!

If you have issues with Zenni Optical (their closest competitor), rather bizarrely, they post out replacement frames and tell you to get them glazed - according to their FB page, anyway.

An earlier post asked about a UK based supplier, I used Selectspecs a few weeks back and was very happy with my glasses and just ordered another pair for £6 ( tho postage is £5.95) , based in Kent , took about a week for them to arrive........ http://www.selectspecs.com/
I've been quite happy with Goggles4U (even have a few pairs Zenni Optical sell that were cheaper on G4U). BUT recently ordering "brown tint" spectacles (as I have many times in the past) has ended up with me receiving weird amber colour lenses.

Complained a few months ago and they sent...yet another amber coloured pair as a replacement. Don't know if they're colour-blind, misinterpret the instructions, or if they've changed factories. Very odd. So if you want a brown sunglass tint, probably best to go for grey!
Just got 3 pr for £30! Including delivery.

Do you think that maybe your local pharmacist wasn't being impartial? I wouldn't go by their word when they're speaking against their competitors

Had replacement - broke. Refused to give refund. Would only offer further replacement. Glasses were clearly not fit for purpose. You have been warned.

I bought 2 pairs for under £20 from goggles4u but one broke after just over 6 months and they refused to service that pair - a piece of the lens with one of the arms attached came away. goggles4u claimed they complied with the laws in each of the countries they trade in (they are a USA firm) but hypocritically did not do so in my case.

The 2nd pair kept falling off my face, showing that although the 2 pairs were made at the same time, they were not the same size! About another 6 months late, this pair also failed.

Voted cold and not recommended.

They got my Prescription wrong on the right eye in both pairs :( thats after a long chat with there web chat when ordering to make sure the details/info I was putting in was correct, not happy (_;)

Often the reason for that is that people don't understand that a dash in front of a number is actually a minus sign and very important. I have had the same issue at tyre centres that did cheap wheel alignment (actually only adjusting the toe-in) where the guy didn't realise that there were plus and minus settings.

On Goggles4U it is possible to upload a scan of your prescription, which ought to eliminate any errors of communication. They could still get it wrong, but you would have eliminated one possible source of error. I have always had the correct prescription delivered.
They got my Prescription wrong on the right eye in both pairs :( thats after a long chat with there web chat when ordering to make sure the details/info I was putting in was correct, not happy (_;)

Can't see free frames - I think it's time to amend the title or expire - but if you can find those free frames I'll be all over the heat!

cannot see how to add 2 vouchers??

I got told on Live Chat that you can only use 1 at a time...

It's a bit cheeky if that's the case. I copied the blurb straight from their website and no indication that only one code could be used. :(

I have had 6 pairs from goggles4u and 2 have had problems. One had an incorrect prescription and they sent another pair right away. Another they had neglected to polish the edge of lenses (for rimless frame) and they offered a discount on a new pair but after arguing a bit they conceded to send a new pair. My most recent two pairs received today are perfect.

Special tip: order from the US site: http://www.goggles4u.com. The prices are the same in $ as £ so it can be 35% cheaper overall. Use codes GLASSES990 or GOBOGO. I couldn't get the codes to work together. Shipping to UK is $21.95 for 1 pair but only $9.95 for two pairs so if you are ordering 241 with GOBOGO it will almost certainly be cheaper. In the end I got 2 pairs with upgraded lenses and coatings for £36 delivered.
If you have problems with your glasses they just ignore your emails. Bunch of crooks IMO
