Why is this going cold? Can someone point me in the direction of the same item cheaper and help me out?

Same one at Amazon - £455, making this £220 cheaper with Quidco.

Thanks. This is £150 cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

That's the wedding anniversary present sorted!

There were only 2 in stock with the black face when I ordered, so only 1 now.

I would guess people are voting cold as this place is so overpriced and I really dont understand how they can say that site is an outlet store as that seems a bigger rip off than the normal website.

I understand what you are saying though, if you want that particular watch it is cheaper here than other places so for that reason it should be hot but as far as judging the item, it is a cheap watch with a gucci name on it so gulible people that are just after brand names will waste the money on whereas they could get the same item without the gucci name for a quarter of the price elsewhere.

I am not slating brand name items, I love designer clothes if they are nicely designed and are my taste but what I dont agree with is selling a £30 value item for £300 pounds because they put gucci or d&g on it, those things are for people that fall for the idea that brand name items make you feel like it is a status symbol or whatever it is that makes people buy these cheap things purely because of a brand name. I dont understand why people personally do this but I hate seeing places like this take advantage of those people and rip them of with ridiculous margins on these things.

I couldnt see anything on that website that I would consider a bargain but as I said, if you are after that particular watch then it is a good deal so voted it hot on that basis, but I do think this is a rip off price and should be a quarter of that price at least!

Here is an example of what I mean, similar design watch (not exactly the same shape) and this watch has 4 small diamonds on it too - no gucci name £24.99 (and I think that is overpriced still!)

I personally don't think that's similar, other than the fact it is of a bracelet syle. I have nothing against cheaper watches, but think that particular one does look tacky.
I think the watch in the post is much more attractive to look at and no doubt feels a lot better to wear and touch. I also believe that more costly materials are used to make the product and am therefore pleased with my purchase.
Many people like to treat themselves or others from time to time and so, even packaging and aftercare help create that 'being spoilt' feeling.

Each to their own - glad I found mine and could help at least one other.:)

I was just trying to find an example of a similar bracelet style watch. I am guessing that the more expensive store takes more time taking the picture using better lighting and trying to get a better look for the website because they are both stainless steel so the look or feel will be no different, stainless steel is stainless steel no matter what the brand, photography or packaging.

I do think that these stores make you think and feel those things you said as that is how they get you to pay £245 for a watch that probably cost about £10 (at the most) to manufacture.

I do understand the feeling of being spoilt and I too like to use nice stores that give you the 'whole package gift experience' that you are explaining but I still think that these are an absolute rip off because it is still a cheap item made out to be luxury, its like trying to sell plastic as diamonds - the packaging could be silk and the store assistant could be the most amazing sales person ever but when you get home all you have is plastic trying to be diamond.

I use this example because diamond is my chosen guilty pleasure and I too love the feeling of being spoilt when I receive a new diamond ring or bracelet but I also do not believe in paying over the odds because someone says you are getting luxury.

It is all personal taste as you say but I see so many people getting ripped off by companies like this and feel that such extreme margins should not be allowed, but while the demand is there and people are willing to buy 'mutton dressed as lamb' items (or plastic dressed as diamond as I say!) then companies like this will always be in business. Its just such a shame that people feel the need to pay extortionate prices for a cheaply manufactured item in order to feel special and spoilt but I suppose the same goes - people will find that feeling in different ways - I personally get that feeling from seeing my Daughter smile and seeing her happy but like you say each to their own.

I just wanted to explain why people are probably rating this as cold as this is the question you posed earlier as I know a large majority of people feel the same way about companies like this that are getting away with ripping people off.

have just noticed your comment on the cost of materials. I dont think that a company as reputable as Sekonda with a history and business based on watch making are going to use cheap materials whereas the gucci watch, im guessing it hasnt even touched a gucci owned building and would have been made with the materials necessary to give the 'luxury look' without being expensive because an item like this is purely made for profit and I would put money on the fact that gucci had no part in the design or manufacturing process of this watch. I would also put money on the fact that the 'cheap tacky watch' has a much higher bill of materials than the 'luxury' gucci watch, especially with the inclusion of the diamonds but would get it would still be higher if the diamond cost was taken out.

It may be worth you looking into things like this because these companies are making so much money because people make the assumptions that you yourself are making but they are not always right and more often than not are wrong. I dont know about this item so cannot say for sure, but a lot of these 'luxury branded items' such as watches, bracelets and other items are probably made in a foreign factory using extremely cheap labour and the workers working in bad conditions.

Also, i think you can use Tesco vouchers with Goldsmith's - £1 = £4.
never tried so unsure how it works

Well its a shame that some people are that ungrateful. If I was given this watch, no matter how much I liked it or disliked it, I most certainly would not tell anyone to stick it where the sun dont shine because they would have spent their hard earned money on a gift for me. That said, I would rather receive this to the so called 'luxury' watch as I would know that the person that had purchased it had not been completely ripped off for a watch that is likely to be way more cheap and tacky than the sekonda watch!

It is quite funny how people are so easily influenced by the mention of a designer name and am really starting to see just how fickle people are when it comes to seeing a designer name and how quickly assumptions are made! But that is why they are the millionaires!

The Gucci model is much better made and looks and feels of a much higher quality too. At £200 odd, after Quidco, it does represent a VFM purchase for a luxury item. At £400 odd, it doesn't.

The Sekonda is just cheap and nasty looking - sorry but it's the plain and simple truth:whistling:

And some people do like these products and don't buy them purely to be label snobs.

Stainless steel is stainless steel, you just want to think it is a higher quality, how can it feel higher quality when they are made from the same material!! You are slating Sekonda when they are a watch manufacturer and Gucci is a clothing design brand???

You take away the gucci name and the nice lighting and post it for £14.99 at Argos and I reckon you would be calling that cheap and nasty too.

It all comes down to your perception of the brand name and the luxury that comes with the brand and the way in which celebrities and the media make it out to be an amazing thing.

I personally wouldnt buy either watch as I dont think any of them are nice at all and was just showing an example. I personally wouldnt touch any stainless steel or silver item as jewellery or watches as this is used because it is a cheap material in general, hence why most watches are made with this rather than nicer materials such as gold or platinum. As said before, if I wanted something luxury I would buy diamonds as they are timeless, classic, beautiful and true luxury - they will also always hold their value and can be passed down to my Daughter.

I was just trying to explain to the OP why people may be voting it cold but have also seen what effect the way a brand name seems to effect others and utterly convince them that it is a superior item when it is simply cheap. I guarantee the manufacturing cost of this does not exceed £10, hence the customer is being ripped off and the companies such as Goldsmith and the designers are laughing all the way to the bank! Maybe I should open a 'luxury item' store as there are clearly enough fickle people out there to make it probably one of the most profitable retail areas to go into!

If it is not label snobbery why would someone pay £245 for a watch that costs £10 or less to manufacture? Do people like being ripped off? I cannot see any other reason people would buy this because im quite sure that anyone who is considerably well off would by a much classier item than this tacky watch. It cant be because of the design of the watch because I have seen similar stainless steel and/or silver watches for a much lower cost that look less tacky than this.

Maybe people just dont like having cash but I think a much more useful way to throw away hundreds of pounds would be a charity donation maybe???

I just noticed your username and had a chuckle at the fact that a user called cheapskate58 is calling a £245 watch which costs around £10 to manufacture is value for money!!! lol As for a luxury item, it has no luxury quality materials such as gold or platinum, diamonds or any other rare gemstones. It is a cheap watch with a brand name and a stupid price tag, nicely packaged to give the impression of luxury to those gullible enough to fall for that rubbish. However is a stainless steel watch a luxury item??? Whatever next, we will have someone say that cubic zirconia is also a luxury material!

This thread has made me chuckle.

Was gonna respond but just can't be bothered. You can buy the lady in your life, presuming you have one, a £30 Sekonda watch and I'll buy my lady a Gucci

I'll have a very Happy Christmas - I hope you do too:p

I have a man in my life seeing as I am a woman! And I feel your misfourtune to have a materialistic. snooty lady that cant tell the difference between luxury and cheap toot with a brand name! As for me buying that Sekonda watch, like I said I wouldnt buy neither as they are both cheap toot looking personally, I would have something a little more classy and elegant containing some nice diamonds that are more than a spec of dust that these average watch designers do and it would be in a decent material like gold (not gold plated as that is almost as tacky as silver or stainless steel!). That said, I would probably rather spend the money on my Daughter now rather than luxuries for me because I have all I need in my Husband and Daughter. I think if people need these material so called luxuries in their life, maybe its trying to make up for a lack of been happy and spoilt with love and need material items to feel worthwhile which makes me feel rather sad for those people. I feel rich in life with my family so dont feel the need for these material things to make me happy and when I do get treats it is for a nice treat but I would love a £5 watch just as much as a £245 watch because I understand that the thought behind the gift and what that gift represents (that the person giving the gift has thought about you and cared about you enough to spend their hard earned money on me) and that would be enough for me because I grew up a long time ago and grew out of that childish need to be showered with gifts.

Maybe your lady wants you to think a bit less about the cost of a watch (cos lets face it both of them are pretty tacky and cheap in the fact they cost mere pounds to make!) and more about what she really wants - maybe a gift that shows you know her and give her something personal to show how much you love her, not how big your wallet is because anyone can buy such an inpersonal gift but only someone that truly knows you can buy a personal and meaningful gift that is from the heart and will really touch the recipent!

I notice no denial of the fact that this watch would cost less than £10 to manufacture and I believe your lack of response only indicates the fact that you really are the exact gullible person that this company markets to!

I would take no watch and the love and family I have and you keep your tacky overpriced watch for your lady which just makes you out of pocket and looking stupid and gullible buying into this stupid fad of a cheap item with a brand name because on the wrist it is going to look like a £5 market watch anyway! :whistling:
#22
Oh how impolite of me, I forgot to say a merry christmas to you too. I hope Santa brings you all the overpriced toot you can fit under your tree. I will not have a single gift under the tree and I love that, my gift will come toddling down the stairs at 7am and will have the most amazing reaction when she sees that Santa has been and that is a gift that money could never buy. My Daughter is the most precious thing in the world and the biggest luxury one could want - that gift is an honour to receive and I get that spoilt feeling everyday seeing her.

I could answer each and every post but I dont have the energy so will try and keep this short (which doesnt appear to be my strength I know!).

First, I have replied because if someone says something the general way a discussion or debate goes is to reply. I didnt realise I couldnt write on others posts more than a certain number of times as it is then seen as hijacking!

The contradications you are talking about appear to be so but are not at all. My point (I may have made badly) was that if I want a luxury item then I would buy a true luxury however now I am a mother I prefer to use my money for my Daughter as her happiness is a treat enough for me. As for the possible other contradictions you mean which I assume you refer to the cheap watch comments, as I said the bill of materials are probably higher on the £30 watch and I feel would be a higher quality, however would buy none as none of these are my taste and think both are tacky.

I personally like buying designer items when it is a well designed unique piece of clothing which I know I am paying over the odds for, I just find it a rip off when designers attach their name to a cheap piece like a watch and rip others off by inflating the cost so much.

I dont understand the night nurse comment, but if it implies I must be using sometihng which is making me act stupid then I doubt that night nurse would have such an effect. I think the morphine I take would have much more effect on me than an over the counter cold medication!

Yes you could just call me daft but that would contribute nothing meaningful to the discussion.

As for rudeness, if I have been rude then I apologise and I should not be rude to others, a) over a watch and b) to someone I do not know and probably is a very nice person. I have been highly stressed in the last few days and that stress may have spilled over a little in my discussion which I should not have done so apologise. You are by no means a bad person just because you want to pay, what I view as a rip of price, for a watch, it just means you have a differing opinion to me which again I am not saying is bad because it would be rather dull if everyone was the same.

I hope that explains everything and I apologise if I upset anyone but find some of the pointless comments people have made (refering to the rather random night nurse comment) to just be as rude if not more rude than my statements because at least mine did have the intention of making a point, if made a little badly and a little off of focus.

I think that covers everything. I apologise again for any upset caused and do hope you all do have a lovely Christmas.

For anyone thinking about quidco's 16%:
Goldsmiths Cashback rates16% for online transactions only
5% for all sale items

so looks like these would only be 5%
