Goliath Beer 500ml Bottles 99p @ Home Bargains

£0.99 @ Home Bargains
An excellent beer for just 99p! Usually sell for about £1.60 at most supermarkets. I found this at the Ashton-Under-Lyne branch, where they also had Hobgoblin for £1.19! Read More

Great price but won't vote as it is always this price at Home Bargains

Is this fizzy? I like real ale but always find the bottled stuff is too bubbly.

'Fraid so. Unless it's bottle-conditioned it will never taste as good as when it's on draught.

Thanks. Are there any real ales that are "bottled-conditioned"?

Awesome deal! This has to be my favourite Wychwood Ale, and one of my favourites of any drink. I don't have this store near me though.

Lots, but you have to check the labels and most that are sold in mainstream supermarkets aren't.
IMO the best bottle-conditioned freely-available real ale is Hopback Summer Lightning, which you can get at Morrison's as part of their 4 for £5.50 ongoing deal.

Thanks for the tip UncleWilly. Had a bottle of that Summer Lightning today. Very nice it was too - just like beer from a pub. Not like that horrible bottled Marstons Pedigree which is nothing like the real thing.

A few more bottle conditioned ales widely available in supermarkets that are worth a try:

Youngs (bitter, Kew gold and London special)
Titianic stout
Shepherd Neame 1698
Brakspear Triple (7.2% abv!)
