They are branded Maxell (I've taken the stickers off).

Best of all, if you're into electronics then they have some useful bits inside. There appears to be a standard 3 lead IR receiver, the cases are not too bad - plenty of room for projects inside, a 2xAAA battery holder, 5 tactile buttons and an IR LED with driver circuitry. If you were to buy these bits seperately for a project it would cost you a lot more than 99p ........

Of course you could just plug it into your iPod if you want to ;-)

My son has his Ipod headphones permanently in his ears. It is especially annoying when I'm in the supermarket as he is totally oblivious to my asking him what he wants for tea! I've taken to lobbing tins at his head to get his attention!

This remote would be great for turning off his Ipod and getting his attention and opinion on whether I should go for the buy one get one free packet of loo rolls!

Excellent idea !!!!

For 99p you can superglue this to the base of his iPod and kill it everytime he doesn't do what he's told .........

do you take everything apart when yu buy things? wouldnt like to see the state of your ps3 or tv. lol

Nice find. A cheap in-road to controlling your ipod via arduino or similar microcontroller...change your iPod track via twitter requests mayhaps?

I bought these specifically to take them apart lol.

I'm an electronics engineer by trade and I'm working on some infrared communication projects at the moment. It wasn't worth placing a small order for some IR diodes/receivers so bought a couple of these to butcher for some prototypes.

Worked out cheaper to buy these than to buy the equivalent parts from my distributor.

This won't do what you want, its infra red will moreorless need line of sight.

Am I the only one who thinks this being infra red is a bit of a flaw for an ipod.

But like bbdom says great if you want to tinker with it.

I love the way you have dismantled it! If only it worked with an iPhone... I actually bought one of these without seeing the old style connector... DOH :(

This is a bargain for parts as the IR receiver alone would cost more than a pound from RS. Also you could use this with a logitech harmony or one 4 all remote.

I still have some of these at home when boffer was putting them in ever BOC they gave out :w00t:

Taking things apart FTW

Can't wait to try one of these out on random annoying i-Pod blasters on the bus :whistling:

ETA just read it properly, shame it needs to be plugged into the i-Pod first. Oh well...

Nope - Classic only has the 3.5mm socket - older iPods had the little rectangular control socket alongside as well, which this device (and the maxell voice recorder - which is also in the 99p stores - certainly in the High Wycombe branch) need to operate.

Once I worked out how to use it. Its got a mind of its own sometimes especially on the Macro setting.

Not a bad little camera for the £50 I paid for it last year

No 99p store near me would anyone send me one for payment via paypal?
#23
BTW these do not plug into the bottom of your iPod, they plug into the top.
#24
Hot stuff. Thanks for posting the pictures too, I was having trouble taking these apart before seeing that you had to take the decals off. Now to see what I can wire up to control remotely.
