Or buy a New Sky + HD box for £99 + postage of ebay. Goodmans !!! is like buying a Lada (i know Sky box's are Amstrad also rubbish brand) but a cheaper option.

just put this in the ebay search

Sky+ HD Box DRX890 500GB Storage

Sky+ box not HD, also to use recording facility you need to take out at the very least a 10 pound a month contract with SKY. Therefore over a single year you suggestion costs over 40 pound more minimum.

I just looked on ebay and I see you can get a ex demo Sky+ HD box for £99.95 plus P&P my other comments still apply so the Goodmans is still the cheaper deal, depending upon what you want.

The Goodmans don't have a great reputation.
Personally have a Humax Foxsat-HDR self-upgraded to 1GB which while it isn't perfect, has very, very seldom let me down, whereas only seem to be stories of problems on the forums with the Goodmans/Grundig/etcs.
You can pick up a Humax from their Direct shop for mid £180s = far wiser bet (and better than dealing with Dixons).

mk-donald - Personally have a Humax Foxsat-HDR self-upgraded to 1GB which.....

Out of interest what make/model of hard drive did you use and does it affect the Humax in anyway....ie does it perform slower?, looking to upgrade my Humax Foxsat from the 320GB to a 1TB hard drive and looking for a nice perfoming/quiet drive..

I actually wrote it up and put it online at

If I was doing it again now I would put a 2TB drive in (as they are little more expensive now than a 1TB was 18m ago) - as the 1TB is hovering at c70% full and a week away might well cause an overflow - and that's before the bonus of C4 in HD which allegedly is coming some day imminently.
Apparently one has to format drives THAT big "by hand" on a PC first - do some Googling.
Had no issues at all with the 1TB Samsung drive I used (in quiet mode).

Rather than expire this thread I've reverted the title show the product still available at this price at Dixons. Amazon is only despatching within 1-2 months.8)
