2h battery life is industry average for portable DVD players :)

I brought this DVD from Goodmans a few weeks ago for £49.99. The battery lasts for at least 2 1/2 hours. The DVD packs consists of 'Nuns on the Run' and a childrens DVD with various cartoons ( recognised stories like Cinderella etc but not Disney ). Not great but ok as it's free!
I am really pleased with the DVD player and highly recommend it.

No.. :)

Is this, or can it be, multi region?

A good price but no Divx these days would prevent me purchasing any kind of DVD player / recorder product. Hardly any buttons on this player means that most functions need the remote control (e.g Setup / display / menu).

I saw this last week when I was hunting down a portable DVD player for my son, but didn't consider it a good deal. Tesco's are doing a similar size for about £50 too a discontinued range I think.

In the end I chose to go with the Optronix 7" multi-region DivX player from Play.com. It was £59.99 which is the cheapest portable DivX player I could find and the quality isn't too bad. Portable DivX players used to go for over £150. One word of warning if you do decide to get the Optronix player...do not run the firmware upgrade unless necessary. Its been known to brick the player in some instances.

For a tenner more I know which one is better value for money.

Happy shopping all.

I brought this for my daughter to use when we went to France on holiday and never used the remote control - able to fully operate the DVD player using the buttons. Don't know about DivX - just wanted a simple to operate DVD player.

Just some feedback for anyone still thinking of getting this.

Build quality is pretty average. It's plasticy and really quite chunky- less sleek than you might think from looking at the pic. With the battery clipped on the back the thing is pretty big, but it gives the unit a slight angle that means it sits well on the knees for you public transport people out there.

However, picture quality seems good for a budget portable. Colours, brightness and blacks all at least meet expectations. Although you can tell the resolution of the set is compromising the source, I found the picture very watcheable. At the bottom of the screen, the backlight is far more visible, as if there's a little torch at the bottom that spills out of the first few rows of pixels, but otherwise screen brightness is consistent.

As is to be expected, sound quality via the built in speakers is pretty rubbish with no bass to speak of, but the volume goes up fairly high considering the speakers are probably the size you'd find in a mosquito's car stereo.

The only thing that's really bugging me is that there seems to be some noise when listening via headphones, as if the DVD mechanism is causing some sort of electrical interference. It's not to bad when there's sound on, but considering ill always be using headphones, I might blast an email over to Goodmans. Also, the drive is fairly far from silent. It's just the usual disc spinning sort of noise though.

Overall it's a bargain, but a reasonable one rather than an amazing one. However, I doubt you'll be getting a portable of a higher-up calibre for this sort of price any time soon.
