These are ok, when they work...i got mine in the new year for £55.......although it shows 87% signal strenght i cannot get all the channels and ITV HD freezes the box. I also have to regularly unplug it and plug it back in then rescan the channels for some channels to work

Buyers should keep their eye on the DTG Download Schedule to ensure they receive the updates to their Freesat (and Freeview) devices.

There's one currently being broadcast for this particular unit :)

I too have had one of these since EmpireDirect fire sale at the start of the year at £55. No problems here, once got the signal feed set up correctly. Good picture quality but the user interface is rather plain/coarse when compared to the Humax Foxsat-HD box, and it isn't as sophisticated (eg for DiSEqC control) as that box. If considering this I would look at the HumaxDirect website to see if you can get a Grade A one for similar price - I know I'd choose the Humax having used both. Be sure though before spending c£100 on a HD VIEWING box that you didn't really want a HD RECORDING box too - ie the Humax Freesat-HDR at c£250 from RicherSounds just now - see other threads here.

sorry guys im a bit naive to this freesat caper

but moving house soon and dont wanna pay for sky and was wondering do you need a freesat sky dish to receive the signal

how many HD channels do you actually get using a freesat HD box?. I cant seem to find a straight answer dredging through forums, the info seems to keep giving an indication of the amount of SD channels available and the only HD channells I can find listed are BBC and ITV through the red button.

The signals for freesat come from the same cluster of satellites in the sky as Sky UK's signals so IF you already have a (properly aligned/working) dish (with working LNB) pointing at Sky UK then you can use a coax from it to feed this box or any other freesat box. That said, most of the actual programme channels do NOT require a 'freesat' branded box to receive them - it is only the freesat EPG programme guide for the next n days (8 from memory) that requires a 'freesat' box - ie you can use many old Sky boxes to receive many of them (in SD standard definition). Best have a look/search/read over in a dedicated forum such as the Digital Spy forum:

Currently we tend to call it 1.1 HD channels:

1 = BBC HD as you've identified, broadcasting each evening with; a 'back library' of HD material they show; some HD simulcasts of new material as also shown on terrestial analog/digital channels; more extensive coverage during some live sporting or musical events - eg they showed a lot of Golf the weekend before last in an effort to drive most HD viewers away :)
0.1 = ITV simulcast a handful (or fewer) of programmes each week in HD and that requires the pressing of the Red button on a freesat box to switch into the HD feed. Tend to be a the occasional football game and film, with the very odd other programme. HOWEVER you'll find MORE programmes are in HD than ITV themselves can be bothered to list on THEIR website - see the freesat link below.

The freesat website has very recently been updated from something that would have shamed a 2000 web developer, to something far more useful/professional/modern in style. They have a specific section about what is on in HD at
http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.HDschedule

We're hoping Channel 4 HD will appear on freesat sometime this year but I don't recall seeing a date promised anywhere.
AND the freesat boxes are spec'd to use iPlayer in some way/shape/form via their Ethernet socket (currently inert) so might get more HD material that way.

Additionally a HD satellite box can watch some other free (non freesat) HD sources such as Luxe HD (luxury hotel type screensaver material - you'll know what I mean if you've seen any).
