Reading the Avforums on this TV there seems to be a fair few ppl have all kinds of problems with this TV, does anyone out there have it and can shed any light on the situation.

I'm in 2 minds wether to get this Tv or the Toshiba 42WLT66 one that has won various awards for outstanding performace.
#3
Get the Tosh, Goodmans are not in their league.

Also for those wanting 1080p over component, I am not sure if it's possible. Obviously I have never tried as I don't have a 1080p tv, best do a Google first to makie sure.

Still a great find for a 1080p tv, and for under a grand it must be considered in a lot of peoples budgets.

I own the Toshiba 32WLT66 and it is an absolutly cracking TV and would recomend these to anyone.

I have not seen the Goodmans TV but reading the AV forums it seems to have its problems but there appeart to be more happy owners than unhappy.

Still £945 for a 1080p is an excellent price.

Cheers for the info, i do like the look of the Tosh and have had my eye on it since last year but it was £1400 back then, i will do a bit more reading up on it first but i think the Tosh is winning at the moment

So tempting

the picture quality is much better on the goodmans though, accepts 1080p on ALL inputs, these should be new stock (1.2 firmware or 1.3 firmware) which fixes the issues that were found. as you can see a 160page thread means that its fantastic quality!!!

That's an amazing price for a 1080 TV.
They normally cost near £2,000

You would probably need a media center pc or an xbox360 attached to get the use of this as there is no uk 1080 HD provider yet.

If I was going to replace mine I would definately be looking for a 1080 at this price. Great deal!!

thanks :)

You can also buy the Sharp 42xd1e with 1080p for not much more - this is far better than both the Tosh and the Goodmans set. I bought it last week - very impressed. Cheapest at Dixons I think but I bought it direct from Sharp for a little more as they give a 3 year warranty. The Sharp has 6000:1 dynamic contrast (1200:1 panel contrast), 2 x HDMI, 2 SCARTS, component, etc.

Excellent stuff mate, did you use the 25% discount which was posted on here not so long ago?

How much better is 1080p over 720p, do you have an Xbox 360 linked up to it by any chance, so you can see full on with the same feed?

Just asking because I am curious as hell, also jealous. :-(

the sharp only does 1080p via hdmi though. the new sharps coming out over the next 3 months will be amazing, but i wouldnt buy a 1080p tv that didnt do all inputs.

Very temped to buy the Goodmans, but i have been reading a lot of the 160 page thread and there is a lot of ppl experiencing a lot of problems which is worrying, i mean you don't get a 160 page thread on ppl saying how good a tv is do you.....there is only so many time you can say it's a great tv in one thread.

If i knew the tv i would be buying was the new updated frmware i would probally def buy the Goodmans, what model number is the Sharp your speaking of ?

At Sharp's press conference they announced plenty of new LCD TV's and they now have 4 lines of LCD TV's. At the top of the line (right behind the 108" LCD) is the new 8th Generation D92-Series. It is available in 42", 46" , 52" and 65" D93-Series which only varies in cosmetic design from the D92. It features 15,000:1 Dynamic Contrast ratio and 4ms response time and is 120hz. Of course it's, 1080p, and features 3 HDMI ports all of which support 1080p. There is RS-232C for the custom installers as well as removable speakers and stand.

I have this Goodmans TV. The first one had to go back as it had back backlight buzzing but the replacement is excellent. I paid about £870 for it inc quidco and for that price its amazing. Sure its not going to be as good as a £3000 sony but you cannot touch it for under a grand.

It DOES 1080p over VGA, DVI, HDMI & COMPONENT!

Can answer any questions if anyone has any.
#18
Yep where can i get one for £870 ??

LOL

Yeah i think i am going to go for the Goodmans when i can find it for the right price, voucher expired now, so we need another one

If you want to measure the difference between 720p and 1080p (these numbers being the number of horizontal lies down the screen) then download video samples for your pc at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx

This might give you an idea.
Make sure your pc can handle 1920 x 1080 screen resolution though.

All below info according to the AVForums thread...

This Goodmans 42" is end of line. Goodmans have stated that they will not be doing over 37" TVs in the future, IIRC it's because the margin is not enough for them. AFAIK Goodmans are mainly into rebadging other manufacturers products, and this TV is actually a Tatung. Tatung have their own badge on it in the rest of Europe and the model number is V42EMGI. It will be available (not sure if model number will be the same) in the UK probably from February/March under Tatung's own name this time.

Goodmans had a lot of problems with early sets, and stated that they had decided to quality control all sets rather than relying on whatever QC was done before. This led to a hold up in stock as units went to them first. Stock is coming in now, but there will be a cutoff when the last of the Goodmans go out and Tatung take over. The ones coming out now should (in theory) be better.

Also in the thread - Tatung have told a UK supplier that stock will appear February, and the supplier states the price will be £1,150.
