Only audio thanks no.
Funny that a Chromecast Audio just does Audio.

I bought one at £15 from Curry's but don't use anymore if you got android phone, HiFi with aux, just plug lead into hifi, no point in using Chromecast save yourself £20

I think you have missed the main point of these things, it's wireless and convenience.

Bargain, these are so good with the optical output.

I agree, really good for streaming through the hifi
#3
Analogue output is very good too, especially plugged into a headphone amp and decent headphones. Been wanting another.
#4
Love mine. All 4 of them. :)
#5
Heat added. I've been waiting for a deal below £20 so I can get another one of these :D
#6
you can connect it through optical cable as well and get even better quality
#7
Mines plugged into a Marantz PM7200. Great amp but no optical input to take advantage of.
#8
Can anyone recommend a good speaker between £40-100 to connect one of these two?
#9
Love mine. All 7 of them. :) Love my music zones.

And this works with, say, Spotify on an iPhone?

Yes

Anyone else have the issue with these where you cant cast to them but you can cast to a group that contains one of them and it starts playing anyway? Its like its not visible in the list, although sometimes it is there.

I have 3, each connect to a separate unfii wireless AP and have seen this type of behaviour. Resolved it by enabling IGMP snooping on the network switch (that each AP connected to the LAN via).

Hey Guys & Gals,

Would this work if I plugged it into a Car Aux output? Could I use it to stream music via bluetooth in my car? Thanks for your replies in advance!

Interesting, cheers. I only have one additional AP and neither of my chromecasts connect via that, these both connect via the main router. I'll have a sniff around those kind of things though so thanks for the pointers.

No, that's not how they work. You stream the playlist / grant access to accounts and the device pulls music from the internet itself *via wifi*.
To have it work in your car it'd have to have access to a local wifi or you'd have to tether to your phone. Tethering data allowances are a bit fiddly.
If you're going to do that, you may as well get a bluetooth to jack adaptor or just plug your phone straight in. Unless you have an iPhone 7 (lol)

so what happens if you have moved out from your mums and want to listen to music all over your house and outbuildings?

Not sure you quite understand how to use this outside your bedroom?

oh okay! thanks for clarifying!

Got a few of these around the house, great idea!
#23
If only they made a combined audio / video one, with separate audio (particularly the optical) ... it would be significantly increase the versatility of it - especially for those of us with soundbars ...
#24
Only started using recently after buying on a whim after going hot here a few months ago. Now I couldn't be without, linked to Spotify it's Music Heaven! <3

Alternatively you could put the phone on speaker and hold it really close to your ear, this has the advantage of a being being a truly portable sound system!

If you are using the analog output make sure you enable "Full Dynamic Range", sounds much better. https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6290498?hl=en-GB

if you have 2 android phones you could do thus with both & have stereo sound with portability.

lmao,................. but to be serious one of the greats things about these is that once you have started the music it goes directly from your router to the chromecast thus allowing you to carry on using your phone, tablet or PC as normal...

With black Friday approaching it maybe wise to wait for it to drop to £15. Cracking bit of kit

The volume and bass will be underwhelming, but if you're getting a high quality output I don't think you'll beat it for £100 new.

I've got a couple of normal Chromecasts that I love and recently got one of these audio ones on a previous deal.
I still think they're excellent but I was really disappointed to discover that I couldn't cast YouTube to it (from the iOS app at least) - I guess they want their video advert income (and to upsell their paid-for service?) but I still assumed it would "just work without a screen".
I pretty much exclusively use the play music app with this but do be wary that the supported app list is smaller than the normal chromecast.

Exactly, no having to keep phone near amp or having a 5m cable trailing across the floor, clean & simple, if Carlsberg did music cast devices....

I made sure this was switched on the first time I used it after reading a previous thread on here but thanks anyway.

thanks ordered not heard of them tbh but the reviews from the members meant no way could i be without one

fantastic product and if if it was Apple, they would charging a gazillion pounds for it. ive got about 4 dotted around the house and the way you can have them all individual so different people with different music in each zone or pair the 4 together for one big party is brilliant. both this and the standard video chromecast are fantastic products.

I would like some advice though on bettering my audio set up. at the moment ive got some cheap speakers which I need to charge but are then wireless and don't need their own power supply on all the time.

ive seen lots of talks of amps etc but aint the foggiest what they do. anyone tell me what connects to what if I wanted a better audio set up? please.

Buy this http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/mini-hi-fi-system-deals/pah012735 and a audio chromecast and you will be set, can be found cheaper if you search but be careful as a lot you see at a cheaper price dont come with speakers ..

A word of warning, I have 2 audio units and at the moment they are useless. They latest preview version of the firmware causes the Chromecast to constantly reboot BT home hubs, Forum Link

This device needs it's own power supply, so probably not much use for your portable speaker. That said, the Chromecast Audio (CCA) takes a standard USB-MicroUSB cable so, theoretically, you could have it hooked up to a portable phone charger.
You need to be in range of your WiFi though.

These devices are fantastic though and are easy to set up and breathe new life into an old Hi-Fi you might have. Think of them as like a Sonos but without the speakers. Very similar functionality. In fact, more so as you can cast your screen to the CCA and play the sound from YouTube videos.

I bought one of these when they first came out and loved it. I got a deal on a Sonos Play:3 which is in my dining room, but my CCA is still hooked up to my home cinema in my livingroom. Basically anything with an Aux input, stereo input (the red & white co-ax plugs) or Optical input (aka TOSLINK) the CCA will hook up to.
