Had a play with this phone today and is it impressive - it's made by HTC so i would expect nothing less really. I think the tarrifs a great deal, and with Quidco makes it even better. 18m contract, but many phones are these days, and with unlimited txts and browsing makes it a great deal imo. T-mobile only.

The T-Mobile G1 doesn't just have one navigation option but three: QWERTY keyboard, 3 inch touchscreen or track ball - you decide! Don't get left behind; never miss an email, IM or Facebook update - the T-Mobile G1 is always online and synched up. Take this beauty with you everywhere and do anything online: watch YouTube? search on Google? check train times, shop online or check your emails. It's pre-loaded with Google Maps? Google Mail? Google Talk?and GPS - plus a world of possibilities from Android Market? Slide-open screen shifts between portrait and landscape to match phone position. Automatic updates come via the always-on internet connection.

If you mean coverflow then no, not exactly but does have a simliar player.

There may be a app made or about to use a coverflow style on it though

it doesnt have a headphone socket tho... ;)

Would rather get the real thing. This has an air of cheapness about it.

think i'll wait to see what the blackberry storm 's like

not stereo bluetooth so no good for me.

Also, not voting either way but I don't really see this as a hot deal.

I didn't actually notice then when playing with it. Just something you expect to have! Limited to use the headphones provided with it then i guess.

Don't like the look of it and I think that slide out QWERTY keyboards are so past it lol

I went in the store & used the phone again. Its AWESOME. I am going to get a contract end of this month, if they are still available. Black one was out of stock today. The mouse scroll in addition to the touch screen is great.

Practicality overruled by style ?? .. surely not..... a slide out keyboard beats virtual keyboards for texting any day ; unless that is you have had your fingers made specially smaller......

I also looked at it instore and I wasn't impressed. Just looked a little archaic for something that's supposed to be the next step in mobile technology.

The best thing I liked is Open Source Code & Free Downloads.

Had a quick look at some of the reviews for this today, they mostly all say the same thing.

G1 = a bit naff, a near miss...

Android = WOW this WILL be the next big thing when they put it on a half decent phone.

I like the idea of it being open source, so apple can't dictate what apps can and can't go on it.

EvilMonkey, I agree it could have been better, but at least there is something to challange the Cr*p Apple dominance. :whistling:

just a nice snippet from my pre reg for the storm . . . .

†No subscription fee for 6 months

2 years @ £35!!! they have really gone one step beyond with this one lol
and the no subscription for 6 months refers to the sat nav! looks and AMAZING phone but i think ill be giving it a miss!! http://blackberry.vodafone.co.uk/storm/specifications/?WT.mc_id=EMAIL-031008-BlckBrryStrm-ConVF-TechS&WT.mc_ev=click

Bang out of order, go and get and education first. They are people far more intelligent than you just because they don't know if this comes with an MP3 player does not mean you say 'duh' - like a 5 year old child. :x

And before you go and say 'duh' to me; you should know that I know alot more about embedded/mobile development than you and probably most people on this forum - not because I am more or less intelligent but because I have learnt it.

Easy everyone :-D
#26
Rash I think you mean "there are" not "they are" anyway I will go and get that education you suggested?

Broxy all these new phones with microsd cards support mp3 in fact the G1 supports MP3, M4A, AMR, WMA, MIDI, WAV, Ogg Vorgis formats all it is is memory.

Had mine since Saturday, I love it, but as this is the only price to get it at in the country it's not exactly a deal as it's not more expensive anywhere else :)

Shame its only available on a carp network.

Is that always gonna be the case? (ie exclusive to t-mobile)

Yeah I second that, shame really.

iPhone is all about functionality and its user interface is the best available. Just have a go on them both in a carphone warehouse its the only way you will know which ones right for you.
