There is a great deal out on the t-mobile/ google G1 phone.

£30 per month on an 18 month contract that you can get 700 minutes or 1400 texts (plenty in anyones book i think) plus free phone, 8GB memory card and internet access.

This phone scored better than the i-phone on the gadget show and is so easy to use.

Also if you haggle you can get even more free such as more minutes etc as they are desperate to make sales. I ordered mine yesterday and its getting delivered tomorrow!!!

I did think about this, but there are half a dozen other android-os handsets due out in the summer, from the major manufacturers - I'm gonna hold off to see what they're like - the G1 is a cracking phone, but a little too 'toy shop' plastic for me.

anyone know if this is available for the staff friends and family rate? or where to find out?

My contract was up for renewal a few weeks ago and I took this out. For me, the tariff is very good - also you get 'Web and walk plus' as opposed to normal 'web and walk'.

Totally unlimited data usage as I understand it.

However, the G1 I thought was poor. I just did not like the quality, it seems very, very flimsy and currently there is no virtual keyboard to allow touch screen texting. Maybe one will be developed soon though. The camera is shockingly bad, and the battery life doesn't bear thinking about. Oh yes, there is only one socket on the phone, meaning you can't charge and listen to music at the same time, for example.

I was really excited about Android, but the hardware let it down for me.

Others will love it.

I got this last week, too and it is an amazing phone. It is so easy to use. Webnwalk is brilliant on it.
They didn't have the 8gb memory card, only the 4gb and i did have to haggle to get the 30 offer as i was already an exiting customer. Haven't received it yet though!

However, I was going to walk away as contract was up this week and reapply as a new customer - no loss to me.

First customer service agent totally messed up order and charged me for phone and £35 a month. 2nd CS staff member was brilliant.

I love this phone! Love the maps, love the web, love the weight and feelof it - not plasticy feel at all. Love the way it opens to reveal the keyboard. Love the syncing calendar with google mail going straight to your phone, too.

I agree with the above poster about battery life and camera - those are the worse points for sure.

Most devices are going down the USB to charge and for headphones route. Blinking pain!

It looks great but I will wait for the G2 as it will no doubt be more refined and all the faults the unpaid beta testers find might be ironed out. :)

I don't know if I would call this a "hot deal" though as this is how much it has been since launch? I am sure the £30 all in tariff was available at launch??

I hope i'm not disappoint as you seem with the G1, i guess i'll find out tomorrow.

As for the camera it's not something i've ever used on my pone and i've been told the iphone one is just as bad or worse. I think apple also have some sort of patent on virtual keyboards etc, i know they have exclusive rights to use 2 touch screens (2 fingers working the screen at one time) but i'm not sure how far it goes.

Still so excited about the phone though!!!

its very expensive for a phone with mediocre features and a free operating system.

Seems like T-mobile are ripping people off. N95 8GB is much cheaper or, you can get Omni or HTC Diamond at this price.

A friend got one of these last weeks and she loves it, very easy to use, slick interface and a good combination of features with the tariff. I had a play with it and I found that the screen wasn't very sensitive, so you had to resort to the mouse nipple to select items. Maybe just a small niggle, but it seems much better than any Windows Mobile device I have used in the past.

But for me, I'm not a big phone user, so 700 minutes is excessive. If they had another low use tariff for say £20 I may consider. Love the concept of the Android OS, hope it takes off.

Popped into my local T-Mobile shop today and they can do £50 off the handset making it ~£48 if you want a cheaper tariff. So £20 for 18 months including 100 minutes and unlimited Web and Walk. Now I'm tempted.
