  I seem to recall there was a lot of problems with the DVD based versions of gothic 2 trying to get them running on Windows 7, hopefully no such issues on Steam editions...?
  
  Also Gothic 1-3 are the original developers, Gothic 4 Arcania was a new team and they cocked up from what I heard, the Risen series are the true sequels. Still quite a tempting deal for the complete pack, although do they stand up to Skyrim? probably not.

  From what i can gather Gothic 1 might give probs on W7, but the rest should work fine. There also appears to be a fan patch knocking about for 3 that makes it a better experience

  I contacted my Brother whos a Gothic nut, and he confirmed that he only had issues with getting gothic2 running yet 1 & 3 were fine, and oddly that despite Gothic 3 being the worst critically rated is the actually the best game in the pack, being on par with Oblivion, finding it hard to decide to believe him after reading all the negative stuff about bugs though.

  The thing with reviews is that they are a snapshot of a game in time, almost exclusively at release. Games can be buggy on release yet they generally get patched out.When researching an older title i find gameplay vids and community forums are much more useful than reviews that focus on the short term problems of a game.
  
  Having said that, I was surprised how well G3 is received today after the utter trashing its gotten across the board!
  
  
  Oh and another thing i found out is that forsaken edition seems to be a nono. Using G3 standard with a community patch is the way forward it seems.

  yea forsaken edition seems to have only 1 of the 3 areas found in gothic 3 vanilla, so vanilla is a bigger game one would think.

  Funny how it works aint it! An enhanced edition gets released that actually reduces the scale of the game. The mind boggles...
