Any recommendations here? I've never played these games before, but enjoyed Risen alot (never got round to completing). I've looked on Metacritic and the scores for Gothic 4 Arcania, and 3 - Forsaken Gods are quite low...

Am considering just buying 2 and 3 individually, which works out to be 5.50ukp for both...any thoughts?

Not sure it's midweek madness, more like midweek calculated business decision. I enjoyed Gothic 3. Haven't played Gothic 2. Done the demo of Arcania and enjoyed that. Tempted by Arcania but wish it was a fiver to make the decision easier.

Gobby, I'd just go for 3. Or Arcania. 3 is pretty dated now but still a playable game.

The 1st 3 are amazing, bu theyve seem to have dumbed down the 4th, although its still good.

ign says you just click left mouse again and again for the 3rd one so not sure how dumbed down 4th could be!

First 3 are great and deep (once patched, which I assume they are). 2 is probably the best.

Can not cope with steam , they seem to dictate how you play
I purchased a game it never loaded , totally un interested when I emailed them and took the money
Tried to cancel the account and was told I am not allowed WHY

just a little rant but enjoyed it

I love steam, such a cheaper (when on offer) and easier way to get games and play them!

I love this game series... the first 3 are my favourite games ever. Sadly the team behind them parted ways with the publisher after Gothic 3 though. Forsaken Gods is riddled with annoyances and bugs because the outsourced software house that took it on basically weren't up to the task, and Gothic 4 is even worse - just a dumbed down slash-em-up with boring repetitive quests and terrible voice acting, I quit playing after a couple of hours because it was tedious.

If anyone is interested in this I would strongly recommend the "Gothic Universe Edition" as a better bundle, because that gives you Gothic 1-3 (the truly great ones) for only £5 and you save the extra £8.75 on frankly a load of rubbish that came after.

If you play through the first 3 and want more like I did, then go for Risen instead, which is where the *real* team behind Gothic 1-3 went after falling out with the publisher and feels much more like the true Gothic 4.
