Released just two months ago to almost universal praise, GTA: Chinatown Wars is now officially the highest rated DS game of ALL-TIME (94/100 on Metacritic).

Features:
* Use the DS' touch screen as a PDA device to set GPS waypoints, change radio stations, communicate via e-mail with in-game characters and order weapons on the Internet.
* Largest DS game ever, features include a world full of pedestrians, weather and traffic patterns, five different radio stations and four different sprawling boroughs to explore.
* Endless gameplay, complete with mature storyline 70+ story missions, dozens of side quests, collectibles, contextual mini-games and the all new mission replay feature.
* Nintendo Wi-Fi mode allowing for head-to-head and co-op multiplayer mayhem.
* Free access to Rockstar Games Social Club where players can chat, trade items and commodities and compete in online tournaments and leaderboards.

Play.com currently has the game at at £17.99 with free delivery, which is 40% off the RRP. Don't know how long it will remain at this price, but it's the cheapest I've seen it, and well worth checking out if you've got a DS.

Oh, OK. Great game though, totally agree. Probably spend more time playing this than anything else at the moment, as I can just pick it up and play for 10/15 mins, do a few missions, mess with the keystone cops, sell a bit of H, then shut the screen and get on with real life..................:-D

I enjoyed this for the while I played it, but prolonged DS play hurts, as my hands are a bit too big for the controls.

I mentioned in the other thread too, but on the occasion I found a dildo in a trash cart, I lol'd good and proper :D

Hardly GotY material. Rockstar said it themselves but I digress, I clocked in over 40 hours playing this amazing game.

Yup, the price did go up to £24.99, but it seems they have taken it down again to the pre-order price, which made me buy my first ever DS game.

Is it suitable for children? Im tempted to buy it for my 12yr old brother, but will not if it has sexual dialogue or sex scenes etc.

GTA IV was a game I could not play with them :whistling::oops:

!WARNING - POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILERS!

I always say it's up to your own judgement. However, GTA: CW doesn't contain sexual "scenes". It does have lots of swear words and a couple of invitations from the opposite sex, but certainly no imagery. None that I've seen anyway, and I completed the main storyline. You do find dildos and used condoms in the rubbish bins occasionally and of course there's the mindless violence and drug-dealing to worry about, if you think he's impressionable.

However, it's a very good game, and shouldn't be missed by any sound-minded individual.

P.S. for anyone else reading this I'd probably say 12 is the lower limit though, don't go distributing the game to 8 year olds :P

Is an 18 rated game suitable for 12 year olds?

Let me think about it...

It's very good, but I only got 6 hours out of the storyline.
Great use of touch screen and astounding on a technical level.

My boys are 3 , 6 & 7. Level headed and intelligent.

I judge each game as it comes. For example, I won't let them play Bully any more since my middle boy worked out a few moves which are intended to demean others.

My eldest two still play GTA Sans.

Horses for courses.

Totally agree, my young lad (nearly 5) plays on this and GTA4, most would say its disgusting but he loves cars and especially like smashing them up (LIKE MOST BOYS!). I ALWAYS turn the volume down so that he can hear the car noise but not the language and he's under STRICT instruction not to shoot anyone or run them down or it goes off and so he does as hes told. As above, its up the parent to decide, at the end of the day he hears worse in town and even at Alton Towers, you can't shelter them from everything.

And the fact that you can't express yourself without feeling swearing sums it up, people like you who feel the need to include a swear word in EVERY sentence are what I can't believe and I wish I could turn YOUR volume off!! :whistling:

He just drives the cars, whats wrong with that??

There are plenty of car games available, many of which would be suitable for a young child. GTA is not either of these things. There is a reason it is classified as an 18 certificate - age ratings are not just handed out for fun.

As a parent of two, and an ex primary school teacher, I know the damage that can be done to children by exposing them to unsuitable media. It is shame that others do not.

What you do with your family is not really my concern, I would not wish to impose my sense of morality on you. I was simply expressing my amazement that some people feel these games are suitable material for very young children, and my subsequent lack of faith in our failing society.

............oh, and I hope you appreciate the fact that I have not 'sworn' in this comment. This is a 'family' site after all.................wouldn't want to corrupt the youth now would we................

There are pros and cons to this argument.

Having witnessed GTA Chinatown first hand, I took the opinion that, although cert 18, this was acceptable. However, as previously mentioned Bully, which I recall is a cert 12 (?) is not acceptable to me - so my boys no longer play this.

From a slightly difference angle - I would question the popularity of GTA China Wars if it had been certified anything else other than an 18. What with the notoriety of the RockStar games within the intended audience - how much impact would GTA CT cert 12 have made?

Perhaps we digress. Back on to the subject - GREAT PRICE ! ! !

I can understand in some way what you are saying on face value BUT, there are NO games on the 360 that allow for such a free roaming drive around with excellent graphics OTHER than GTA4.

As I said, he does NOT have the volume on loud enough to hear the language and I've completed the game so there are no cut scenes to see. I also stay with him to make sure he's behaving and therefore I see no wrong, he even tells me that smashing windows is bad but we can do it on the game. I think that as a parent I have the right to judge my childs mental ability, far from damaging him he is leaps and bounds above his piers as we only allow him on the games as a reward for reading his school books etc. Plus he's VERY caring and polite, has NEVER sworn despite hearing it on a regular basis in the street/ days out etc hence my dig at yoru swearing in your post!

As for failing youth of today, that has NOTHING to do with games for gods sake, its the government, so called experts and to a point teachers, who will blame bad behaviour on ADHD etc instead of addressing the root cause.... some kids are just plain unruly through bad parenting and a complete lack of discipline!!!!

Im not going to justify my decision to you, he's my child and he's developing well, I believe that our country is plagued by a bigger problem than games but you are entitled to your opinion, as am I.

Burnout Paradise? :whistling:

He plays that too but its not comparable to GTA, Paradise is unrealistic and damage is either total or nothing, whereas GTA looks like real cars and the damage is much better.

As I said, its a choice thing and I've made it, he clearly hasn't been damaged by it and he enjoys it and as far as Im concerned that's all I want for him

BTW good deal to the OP :-D
