Here's what i don't get about *all* meat eaters on the entire planet:

They *all* make snap judgments about a wide and varied group, based on minimal exposure to a select part of said group, extrapolating that behaviour to be applicable to everyone. :whistling:

I have never tried these foods - the Cheese/Onion sausages, are they actually cheese/onion, or are they cheese/onion/fake meat? I've been vegetarian for as long as I can remember, and i have to admit, I get frustrated at the fact that so many "vegetarian" foods are actually just fake meat dishes - I understand they are targetting the ex-meat eater market, but it does get frustrating after a while. I have no interest in eating something designed to look, smell, and taste (almost) like beef or lamb (but not quite...)

Bacon and sausages on the other hand, I will freely admit, they smell tasty...

how is that a snap judgement? the vast majority of vegi foods are fake meat based! not a snap judgement...just the facts

now heres the thing...you ASSUME I have limited exposure. I disagree. Just cause I eat meat I know nothing about vegetarians?

I could equally say:

Here's what I don't get about *all* non-meat eaters on the entire planet:

All food has to formed into some kind of shape , do u expect vegetarians eat food with no form?

u will find that many cuisines have foods shaped like sausages, burgers , patties , pies etc,

these shapes are not exclusive to " meat eaters " , your statment just shows how uneducated

u r regarding food, have a look at indian vegetarian cuisine a very old cuisine with a vast variety

of vegetarian food, they have many dishes, which are formed into burgers patties sausages etc.

u really do need to educate yourself before post on a subject.

Makes perfect sense --- meat products look and taste good (usually).
Vegetarians have taste buds, just like meat-eaters.
BUT, Vegetarians don't eat meat.
Therefore, there is a market for vegetarian products which look and taste like meat (even though most don't).
But no-one, even meat-eaters insist that all their meals consist solely of meat -- therefore, there is a market for vegetarian products which look and taste like foodstuffs other than meat.

What's to figure out?

so these arent designed to simulate meat??

shows your ignorance and arrogance that you can say something with no tangible proof to say I'm wrong. I'm well aware of other cultures food...however I dont see other Ethnicities describing their food as 'sausages' or 'burgers' etc. Shape is 1 thing, name is another...these foods above and the majority of the others are simulating meat based products are they not?

I'd like to see peoples reactions if you asked for 'one of those sausage things' in your local Indian.

Are you just another vegi walking round with a chip on your shoulder against the devils that are meat eaters?

then whats the purpose? why not just eat meat? if u want it to taste, look, feel like meat then the best option IS meat!

For a start its healthier than the carp they put in these things...all these ready meals (and thats what they are) are full of rubbish

There we go, you've now proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that you don't understand the concepts behind vegetarianism ... or maybe you just don't understand where meat comes from.

You also don't seem to understand that one doesn't have to eat ready-meals to be a vegetarian -- in fact, most vegetarians do a lot of cooking -- thereby avoiding all the "carp" that meat-eaters happily eat through ready-meals as well as fat and hormone filled meat products.

Vegetarianism brings benefits to health, society and the planet.

Those products which simulate meat are a help to meat-eaters who develop a conscience and would like to try something different - and a treat for vegetarians who enjoy those products.

I think you could do with researching topics a bit more before you take up sides ....

no...your missing the point here, this deal is about READY MEALS and thats EXACTLY what I'm commenting on! I'm not commenting on 99% o the time..I'm commenting on these specific meals

I'm not taking sides at all but yet again its another vegi jumping on someone who eats meat...look at my opening comment, whats that wrong about it...yet I get jumped on cause I eat meat...surprise surprise!

End of the day you dont want to eat meat then fine, but then why pretend to eat meat? no problems with eating soya etc but why have something that looks, feels and tastes like meat?

now heres the thing...I have eaten these products...they smell like meat...thats it, nothing like the taste or texture so your arguement about them aiming them at the ex-meat eater market means nothing

Argue with me as much as you want...I'm not arguing to the reasons behind vegetarianism (something you blatantly think I AM commenting on) says way more about you jumping on me over it than my comments do, all I am saying is why eat simulated meat when you could use just soya etc to make whatever you want, why shape it like a chicken fillet etc?

Your COMPLETELY missing the point here and you obvo think I'm attacking non meat eaters...it dont bother me what you eat at all, just saying about the concept here. It really shows some peoples attitude to others practises cause your so quick to attack a non-veggie over a comment and miss the obvious point in the question

eat meat for many reasons " taste" is not always the main reason.

U r the one with the "chip" why else would a meat eater reply to a thread containg vegetarian

products other than to cause an argument. If u look on most " vegetarian " product posts

meat eaters always post the classic " WHY NOT JUST EAT MEAT
TRYING TO IMITATE IT "

It seems to me u have a chip on your shoulder against vegetarians, i never reply to posts

containing meat products,to " have " a go at meat eaters ,why do u feel the need apart from

not understanding why vegetarians choose not to eat meat ?

*ahem*

seriously, wow, i think an awful lot of people here need to grow up.

ODB - if you seriously managed to miss the sarcasm in a post saying "every last meat eater on the planet makes overly generalised comments" then i pity you, i really do.

Strange as it may seem, i agree with you - i see no point in eating vegetarian food because it looks like meat, and i have no desire to eat something attempting to taste like it, or have the texture of it either. I can of course see the point in *making* such foodstuffs - there is afterall, a lot of money in it.

On the other hand, if it tastes good, i can perfectly understand eating it *despite* it looking like meat (or, more accurately, regardless of the fact it looks like meat). Which is why i was wondering if the cheese and onion sausages were actually cheese and onion which look like sausages, cos that sounds quite nice to me, rather than cheese and onion stuffed fake sausage meat, which frankly doesn't.

For those who have recently converted to vegetarianism, i can understand why they eat stuff like this - although, i can only imagine it would make the transition far far harder.

ODB - for the record, the only thing i objected to was the way you said that all vegetarians wanted their food to look like meat. We don't, but unfortunately, far too many people think we do - including the people who make and market vegetarian food.
#35
how is that a snap judgement? the vast majority of vegi foods are fake meat based! not a snap judgement...just the facts

and for the record, the *vast* majority of vegetarian food is in fact rice based. The staple part of the diet of more than 1/3 of the population of the planet. I'm guessing pasta would come in second, with cheese/dairy based being next on the list of vegetarian food.

nah..I made a general statement...I didnt say ALL just a general statement, but yeah I agree, surely the transition wil only be hindered by these?!

But every vegi I have ever know have eaten these things...I just dont see why you would want to eat something that is fomed to look/smell/taste/feel like meat if you want to be vegetarian? Its the equivalent of me eating steak thats shaped and flavoured like Broccoli! ok...at first yes but after say years? makes no sense

I'm a meat eater and I choose to eat veggie burgers, mainly because the 'meat' burgers are not meat in it's true form it's power blasted body bits.
