Not a negative comment, but shouldn't that be save £300.

It is a very nice spec indeed.

The 17" screen is what really makes the PC a super buy, but the refurb bit is offputting - 1 years guarantee will give some peace of mind.

Wish I hadnt bought my dell over xmas.

Hi and welcome to HUKD NKB :) I'll add the price to the thread title. Individual items are best posted as "product" when submitting a deal, so the price shows up on the right hand side.

Thanks!

£15 off code on dixons vouchers

For a price comparison:
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-9226.aspx

This ain't a bad price, I have a reconditioned dell which was in brand new condition, saved over £450 from new RRP price at the time, albeit not from Dixons, recons can be v good deals sometimes, this is a good deal.

When you add the laptop to your basket in dixons, it automatically adds,

SYMANTEC NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2007 PC CD ROM

with no option to remove? They are trying to scam unwary buyers with this chargeable extra.

Does anyone know how to remove the extra item?

Jav, it's available from Currys for £100 off, so it's only a saving of £200.

Cheers,

I bought a similar Packard Bell notebook a year ago (W3301) which had the same specs except AMD Sempron 3000 1.8Ghz, 60Gb HDD and Windows XP Home. It has performed superbly even copying VHS tapes to DVD on the 'fly' without dropping a frame (using a Dazzle device). It cost £750 which was a good price at the time. Therefore this higher spec, same style, same make, same screen size, PB Notebook has to be an absolute bargain at this price.

£15 off code on dixons vouchers

Thanks for the reminder, I've added that to the OP as well :)

...and 2.5% quidco (£9.60) making total actual cost £374.40
#13
I know it's refurbished but are you still allowed to send back for a full refund if you dont like it (ie badly scuffed up) under the distant selling rule

You can send it back for a refund if you do not like it, but they charge you £7.99 for collection / restocking etc.

gone for it. put £15 voucher code in (£384)and gone though egg for 5% off (£366) . quidco might track it (fingers crossed for a additional 2.5% (£357). kept thinking about the play deal but didnt really want to spend 550 on a over speced laptop. and big screen also helped

Looks a good buy but I would really like to know if its a 1.8 or 2Ghz cpu and whats the cache size? Dixons say 512K

From AMD site:

3400+ (2.0GHz, 256k L2 cache, 1600MHz HyperTransport bus)
3400+ (64-bit, 1.8GHz, 256k L2 cache, 1600MHz HyperTransport bus)

Sempron 3400+ (64-bit, 1.8GHz, 256KB L2 cache, 1600MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM2)
Sempron 3400+ (64-bit, 2.0GHz, 256KB L2 cache, 1600MHz HyperTransport bus, 754-pin)

From Dixons spec after it says 2.0ghz....

Processor Speed 1800mhz

I bought one, had scratches on the lid, very cheap plastic the type that shows finger prints. decided to send it back the day i got it however the next day when I turned it on it wouldnt boot.
#21
This seems a good deal to me even reconditioned, shame the processor is a sempron but then it the processor was any better I doubt it would be at this price.
#22
Nonono1,

I played a two hour dvd on the similar spec model and the battery was okay for that. Didn't need to plug it into the mains at all.
#23
BTW it is a AMD AM2 Sempron,
#24
Just can't bring myself to spend £100s to buy a 'reconditioned' product which is still second-hand even if the problem it was sent back by the original puchaser has been fixed. My brother-in-law bought a reconditioned TV which lasted just over a year before it stopped working. A friend of mine bought a reconditioned oven which stopped working after 3 months. It's a good price but should be. I would certainly consider buying third-party extended warranty cover with some of the savings.

My son purchased this model a couple of weeks ago, and I purchased the R1938 for daughter at christmas, the R1938 is silver, both arrived in immaculate condition, we had a slight problem with the keyboard on daughters it was collected and returned by courier within 7 days, both beat my compaq and partners dell hands down, both their batteries run well over 2 hours, only bad thing i can say is dsg's customer services are attrocious but if you push them hard enough they do as you want.
#26
caverncity
BTW it is a AMD AM2 Sempron,

Is that a good or a bad thing? also is the cpu as good as a barton 3400+?

Which i take it would mean it would be 64bit, which is an extra plus

I bought one from Currys a while back. It was also a reconditioned one. When it arrived it had one dead pixel, quite visible dead on the center. So I decided to return it. Went to my local currys they did not accept it, had to call them directly for collection. They collected it within 5 days and refunded in full within 14days, no extra charges were applied.

Dixons might have the same kind of return policy, but its best to ask before buying.
#30
Personally I wouldn't touch one of these. I have read about the power connector working itself loose so that it won't charge. PC World then say that this is wear and tear and not covered by the warranty.

My neighbour's Packard Bell laptop seems to be suffering from exactly this problem too.
#31
Seem to have more in stock now as just ordered one, oh and don't forget to use your egg card if you have one to get a further 5% off the price.

At the end of the day its an avarage laptop that will more than meet most peoples needs at a very good price with a big 120GB HD

Thanks for the link!!!!

Now showing unavailable
#33
how fast are the sempron cpu? spec says 2GHz on front page then 1.8Ghz on the back.

any possibility to upgarde the cpu yourself if it's like a snail
#34
Managed to bag one today aswell - went thru Quidco + £15 voucher so a bargain at £374 all in.

Wondering if I can get the Vista upgrade for £11 or will the 'refurbished' bit put the kybosh on that?

I just love pinching them pennies!
#35
mines arrived at work today and it's the biz. looks great no damage to it as far as i can see. will give it a once over when i get home. four times nicer then the dell i bought last week and £60 less..woulnt mind another 2 for the kids.
#36
it's out of stock. seems like everyone else missed the boat now.

simonbronwne, Do you find the response of the cpu slow? and could you confirm if it's 2.0GHz and 512cache? also is the screen good?
#37
system says mobile amd sempron
processor 3400+
1.8ghz
896 ram (guessing lost ram is used in video)

asfor slowness just seems like anyother i've got.

screen is glossy and viewable and large. dont think it could come much better
#38
I ordered one on Sunday and it arrived today via DHL:thumbsup: . Looks the mutts nutts, you wouldn't guess it's recon. Mostly covered in protective film and also comes with Norton as standard-no I didn't pay the extra £30.
Basically chuffed to bits with it :) as its my first laptop-oh dear tempted fate now i suppose:giggle:. Got a warranty card with it that says it's covered by a 2 year guarantee but I suppose this is standard gumph they send with them as I'm sure it says 1 year on Dixons website.
#39
Got mine this morning all it came with was powerpack and instructions but am impressed with the screen size.
