A nice laptop. I personally would go for an Alienware setup if I wanted to spend that sort of money on a portable. But that's just me.

I'd never heard of Alienware before and have just checked out there website. Very nice.

Can any deals be had or do you have to pay retail ?

Seriously google for reviews on Alienware before you purchase anything!

I won't be shopping with them again, and nor will my friend, who against my better judgement bought an Alienware too after me.

We both have different models, but we both have problems.

One problem we both suffered from is the legendary over-heating problem caused by bad contact between the processor and heat sink!

I know that a lot of people are happy with their Alienware laptop, but I also know a lot of people are not happy. The balance isn't right, I wish I'd paid more attention to this rather than ignoring it and taking my chances.

I hope they've improved their customer service too!

I am hoping to buy an Alienware setup next month. I currently have a 3.3gHz laptop, but I want one of their desktops just for gaming and internet.
I have not looked into the possible deals yet, but I will do closer to my purchase.
When you buy Alienware, you get top spec on everything. They are beautiful machines.

That's news to me. I'll investigate it.

My lodger got a HP laptop two months ago.

It's been with HP's "6-10 day service" for around 6 weeks of that time. It was returned with the broken DVD drive replaced, and broken in a different way.

Better to buy a Rock then an AlienWare, they have a 3yr insurance backed garantee.

Thanks to Skirge not me :) He/She found it and posted the spec in the original post. It stretched a long way down the front page though, so it was best to include it here.

I've had an HP laptop for around two years now. It's been great and I would happily buy another.

I read a lot of good reviews for the hardware in professional reviews, and a whole lot of negative reviews from users.
I just figured at the time that customers were more likely to post if they had a bad experience and not if they had a good experience. I was wrong :x

I was looking at maybe a Dell XPS next time (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1710?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs).

It's interesting to note that Dell purchased Alienware last year!

i recommend rockdirect, amazing customer support which is reflected in their 3 year collect and repair service as standard.

Do they make anything to match the Area-51 m5550 ?

I like the idea of a 1920x1200 15.4" screen

Alienware systems have awesome performance, the style of them is however... tasteless at best. Especially the desktops!
#15
I've not heard of Rock before! I'll have to check them out.

Btw I have an Area 51 M7700 - heap of crap that it is... Over-heats, keyboard has scratched the screen when closed (I now have a piece of padding to separate them), the top of the screen has scratched the case, the case has broken off at one screen hinge and now the surrounding plastic is cracking into pieces, in built microphone is useless, in built card reader keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, oh and sometimes the when opening the lid the screen simply will not turn on, after a few attempts it will. Pheewwww!

I look after my laptop, I don't abuse it.

I can't remember what model my friend has, but it's a recent one.
