Greene King St Edmunds Golden Beer, 500ml. Only 59p @ B&M Bargains.

£0.59 @ B&M Retail
As title says, a very nice golden beer for just 59p per 500ml bottle. My local B&M has it, not sure if it's nationwide though.

Nice find. Now all I ned to do is find my nearest B & M.

It's 4.2 % ABV and the descriptive notes from Greene King are "St Edmunds is crisp and fresh with zesty, citrus notes." Sounds like a lovely, light IPA. Cheeky little number.

First time I have tried it today and it is very nice. A little billy bargain if you ask me.

It does not have any after taste and I feel this could be quite light on the stomach. So plenty of room down there to get some more.

Great deal if you don't live anywhere near London  .

It's good stuff, and I'm not much of a beer drinker tbh.

They also have 500ml bottles of Merrydown Gold cider for 99p, which seemed like a good deal to me.

B&M have just taken over the old Woolies store in Abergavenny.

I popped in for a looksie last week. I didn't notice any booze. I guess it will take them a few months to get an off licence, should they wish to have one.

Wtf is B&M!? lol.

i'm sure this is a nice beer but you really shouldn't drink greene king beers, responsible for closures of small breweries and pubs etc. :viking:

That's fair enough, but don't forget to add 'Bud' to the 'list of shame'.

why are they responsible for closing small breweries and pubs etc?
#12
Because the economic crisis forces people to skip the pub and buy booze for a fraction of a price.
#13
Just been back up to get more of this, but they have put the price back up to 99p.

Still a good price for a nice beer but not quite a bargain as to 59p. :(

Marking as expired.

They buy breweries like Ridleys then shut down the brewery and move prduction to their Bury St Edmunds brewery. They only brew Ridleys beer on a small basis now. They have doen this with other brewieries as well like Hardy and Hansons, Rayments, Morlands and Ruddels. If you check CAMRA website it has more information on this.

I've not tried this one, but I have a bit of an issue with Greene King since they took over Old Speckled Hen and made it taste rubbish. I agree, they are a bit of an evil for breweries and I am not a happy bunny with them.

However, I cannot resist a bargain and my principles go right out the window when something is cheap. This is a tasty ale and an absolute bargain at 59p.

pretty much what most have been saying, they have been known to play a bit dirty, buy a pub in an area, sell pints for dirt cheap till the ones around cant compete and close, then whack all the prices up when the competition disappears. Perfectly legit but still...

example of this is the 99p deal in spoons at the mo, all the daytime ale drinkers are going there instead of the legion or other pubs etc, fair enough you say but do we want wetherspoons and only wetherspoons operating the majority of pubs in towns and cities?

agree with the interbrew remark but if you ask me greene king are a special case, its not about mass production and marketing power, its the situation ive mentioned, CAMRA will tell you more :)

sorry for the rant/length of message!

B&M should win an award from CAMRA. Their range of beers is quite outstanding, probably the best I've ever seen in a supermarket.
