what wrong with Glasgow?
Crime figures for 2008/09 in Glasgow Scottish National Average Figures are on the right.Population 584,200 - NON SEXUAL CRIMES 61.0 against 24.0 Serious Assaults etc. 32.0 against 13.0 Robbery 17.0 against 6.0 Other Violence 11.0 against 6.0 CRIMES OF INDECENCY 19.0 against 12.0 Rape & Attempted Rape 2.0 against 2.0
Wouldn't you expect it to have the highest figures being the largest city in Scotland by some margin? So many people have such a naive view, typically people who have never been there or only driven through it. Great advice thanks for that. It is a city, it has crime, it has bad areas just like every other city in this country. Grow up.

I wouldnt rise to this idiotic nonsense, clearly the whole of england and wales has much less crime.

Just look at england fans when they are abroad for evidence??

Beware: a man had his head cut off whilst on a Grayhound coach in Canada.

I heard somebody once died in a Ford Mondeo so i would steer clear of them as well.

thanks for this - just booked a nice cheap day by the sea for me and the kids in the half-term. so much cheaper and easier than driving all the way there :)
if you book before the end of the month, for travel thru July, the advance fares are £3 between london victoria and the south coast. This includes 40% additional discount on southernrailway.com, as normally the fare is £5,and you will pay £5 at the station or on other websites. Southern usually run a new offer every few weeks though...
I use the Southern trains quite often. Okay there aren't in the greatest shape but they are perfectly adequate. Plus it is probably roughly a third faster to take the train compared to a coach.
Plus also if you have a student rail card than than it is only £2 each way!
But I got an email last week that I think was saying that the £3 fares are ending this month, is this true?

if you book at SOUTHERNRAILWAY.COM single train fares available London Victoria/ Brighton/ Portsmouth/ Southampton for only £3.00. much better than being stuck on a bus on the motorway perhaps, and quicker too.....

Looking at the state of some of the southern railways trains id much prefer to be on an air conditioned coach with free wifi and a large leather seat than on one of those

its still a good deal
Sounds good and im guessing most students around here would like this especially with the free wi-fi.

However, i'll stick to the £3 advance train tickets from portsmouth to London Victoria as its slightly cheaper and quicker :)
If anybody travels on one, or has traveled on one, let me know what it was like. I don't live near Portsmouth or Southampton and would be interested in what it is like!
can someone also post deals for staying in isle or whyte & cheapest ferry... I want to plan a full trip.

"It is one of the most evocative names in transport, conjuring images of epic journeys under huge American skies."

Greyhound buses generally conjur up images of crack heads and hoes in American minds.

Having said that, cant be any worse than National Express, extremely uncomfortable coaches driven by mentally unstable folk

I know what you mean

Since May I've travelled twice on Nat Express (first time in 10 years) and both drivers were comically hostile to the passengers all throughout the journeys without any provocation; is this longstanding or just since the debacle with their East Coast Main Line franchise? Seriously i'd give Greyhound a chance if they can expand the routes

Took the Greyhound bus in the good ole "US of A" back in '87 and was utterly underwhelmed at how basic these buses were - he'll I'd seen them in movies and TV shows and thought they were supposed to be part of the great Americana excess plan - NOT!

National Express - would never travel with them again after taking the bus down from Edinburgh to London overnight about 11 years ago and the **** of a driver kept falling asleep at the wheel :x

Best bus I ever took was in Taiwan - took the bus (grudgingly) from Taipei to Taichung when the driver failed to collect me from the airport :x Was very pleasantly surprised to find sofa like seats (in a weird lurid green colour) and TV screens showing movies etc

They should bring those Tawain buses to the UK and they'd clean up :w00t:
