Just noticed this after spending £11.50 on it in ebay (literally 5 mins ago)

Im going to be cheeky and pinch edi's old description and a previous thread for this product at £15 (hope you don't mind!)

* Acoustically amplifies your iPhone
* Custom-engineered waveguide requires no power
* Allows syncing/charging using your dock cable
* Great for nightstand or tabletop

* Amplifies by about 10 decibels.
* Perfect for turning your iPhone into a speakerphone or mini sound system.
* Power requirements : None.
* Compatibility : Iphone and Iphone 3G

Imagine hearing your iPhone loud and clear, without using earphones or powered speakers. The Griffin AirCurve turns your iPhone into a no-power-drain alarm clock on your nightstand, or a mini sound system that never needs batteries or adapters. This cleverly designed acoustic amplifier for your iPhone collects the sound from the built-in speaker of your iPhone, amplifies it in coiled waveguide within the base, and projects it into the room. The waveguide has been engineered to deliver amazing amplification - you'll swear there are full-sized speakers in there.

Included pass-through slot allows you to charge and sync your iPhone using your own cable. And AirCurve's see-through translucent polycarbonate body lets you appreciate the graceful curves that do all the work.

Got a couple of good reviews and a lot cheaper than some of the docks out there.

I believe Griffin is also a good solid make.

For some reason all of the usb cables for the iphone that I've used (about 4 or so) have made my phone overheat to extreme temperatures- have yet to have this happen with the original apple one though. Strange, and a shame because like you say they are seriously overpriced!

As for the product, the sound quality on the iPhone is incredibly crap, so why you'd want to amplify it I have no idea, but for a tenner it seem's like an A-OK deal for an iPhone dock lol

yeah i wanted it more for a dock in the lounge as its cheaper alternative to apples and looks quite nice.

thanks for the info on dodgy usb cables, may have to shell out £15 for original cable...

No prob, though it could just be my phone! I can't see how a simple cable would differ so much from apples =/

Thanks, I was considering buying one only yesterday!

btw, just wondering, why do so many people need the cables? I mean, you get one in the box with every ipod/iphone. They are all interchangeable and I now have 3 originals as a result.

I want an extra one to keep in laptop case, using pdanet for iphone tethering ;)

It is possible to use wifi for pdanet but seems too much hassle compared to usb.

That is the drawback I must agree. :thumbsup:

I went into Carphone *****house and tried my iphone on one of these and the results were shocking, basically Griffin would be better just advertising this as a dock and dropping the amplifier part from the description. summary: looks great as a dock and at a decent price, crap at amplifying sound! only my opinion still voted hot for price as this is the cheapest i have seen it. :thumbsup:

I leave one in every room and everywhere I visit! You need them with the battery life of the iPhone lol I seem to lose them a lot too, don't know how. Either way its handy to have a spare =]

Do you have to be careful when putting the phone in the dock? The dock I have at the moment scratches the bottom of my phone if I don't place it in extra carefully, it's not a great fit =/

I think he was saying he had 3 CABLES not iphones/ipods you muppet...

Posting on the deal, not bad but I just use a simple 3.5 jack from my PC to plug in the top and play my tunes at the quality the MP3's were ripped at. i do the same in the car I have a 3.5 jack from the AUX to the iphone, good times :)

I am another one that thinks the iphone built in speaker is beyond rubbish considering it's an ipod too I expected something better that that apple!

I guess it's for ringing and that's it, fair enough really

No he could have just said i've got three original cables.
But instead:

I mean, you get one in the box with every ipod/iphone. They are all interchangeable and I now have 3 originals as a result.

Thus implying that he has 3 cables as a result of three purchases of iphones/ipods.
The key phrase being, '...as a result'

Is this really important to you - that someone none of us know, and never will, may (or may not) be boasting about having (possibly) 3 iphones? Your life must be really empty mate!

What a complete and utter loser you must be to be making such a big issue of this.

As you are SO interested, I have one iPhone, which I bought last week. The other cables are from a very old original ipod I had some years ago, and one from my current ipod player I bought 2 years ago and still use.

WTF is so flash about any of that? If you think that's showing off you are truly utterly clueless :thinking:

Muppet :whistling:

Am i missing something is there a voucher code? Becaus it comes up at £11.50 for me?
#23
I have an iPhone, and 2 older ipods look at me im rich *pff* ridiculous! they're not even that expensive, you can pick certain ipods up for £30 now! Some bloody childish people on here lately!

I think most people have bought more than one ipod/iphone and that's why LotusJas was asking why you need to buy extras, if most people have more than one cable anyway...

Back to the original topic, theres a guy on ebay who sells them for £0.80 or so including delivery, that's where I get mine- would just reccomend the original though based on personal experience.

Poundland have USB ipod/iphone sync cables for.... erm... a pound!

I havent had a problem with heat issues, I have the original cable but this is handy as it's retractable.

Back onto the stand....
how is it? does it do what it says on the tin? I am especially interested if it works well as a hands free speakerphone as nobody can hear me as it is, I have to hold it close to my mouth which defeats the object!

(for the record I have 4 - an ipod nano, ipod 80gig video, ipod touch & an iphone - I don't need them all just too lazy to sell the old ones - is it my turn for a pointless slagging off?)
