This has been going forever, but it's still hot because people don't seem to know about it!

Woah woah woah!!

I know some people might know about this, but I don't.

Could someone explain? I'm going to London on Saturday, with 3 other people, how do I take advantage of this when buying the day railcards, in stead of just buying 4??

Cheers

Just go to your local ticket office. They have an obligation to sell you the cheapest available ticket so should sell you this as a matter of course.
There is a groupsave 3 available as well - 3 people travel for the price of 2.
For travelcards this is only available "out of boundary" (i,e outside the travlecard zones.)
Also, just for info these tickets are only valid if you travel as a group for the WHOLE journey - which means for saver returns you MUST travel back together too.

So it wouldn't be valid on say a zone 1-6 travel card then? I would actually have to travel from somewhere outside zone 9?

Thats correct. You would have to travel from outside of zone 6 - so from where i am in Kent it's from dartford or Swanley.
Also I believe on travelcards it is only the rail fare that is discounted - not the travelcard price. So if you are "in boundary" there is no saving. With the exception of the groupsave child add on for £1.
Also for the person asking about thorpe park - it would be available as a point to point ticket, not a travelcard (which means from London Terminals to Staines) If it was a travelcard you needed the cheapest way to do is to reverse the journey - buy FROM staines (outside zone 6) to All zones. Any national rail ticket office can sell a ticket this way round, however as this is not the "correct" ticket you will have to request it.

If you only want to travel on Southern trains then their DaySave can be bought as a group ticket which costs £20 on any of Southern Railway's trains for the day. If four people go, it's £5 each. See http://www.southernrailway.com/buytickets/daysave/DaySave.php?sEvent=TicketDetails but you do need to buy 7 days in Advance.

If you live in Brighton, you can buy them from One Stop Travel: possibly even on the day but I've never tried quite that close to the time of travelling.

I was on the train when the conductor was checking tickets, 4 elderly people were on this offer - the conductor reminded them that they MUST travel together at ALL times or they would be in breach of the conditions ...... this is worth noting.

If you travel more than a few journeys in London get an Oyster card - my gf spent a weekend in London and all our tavel was under £10... travelcards are really expensive...

I think you can't use network card on those, so if only three are travelling, then it's practically the same price. Better use it for four;-)

I will be travelling with 3 other people together to Brighton on 12 August from London Victoria same day return. What will be the price for group save 4 and will I need to buy in advance or same day also the same price.
