Sounds good, not too sure about the 3 to 6 weeks dispatch time? - still hot though. Probably go for the slightly more expensive one with next day delivery.

Has anyone seen a Freeview box with upscaling AND a hard disc recorder ? I've been looking for a while and apart from a Sony which cost over £400 !! I can't find anything ???

Its all well and good if you think that a £40 Grundig freeview box will have better video processing than your HDTV's own upscaling...

I have a V+ with a HDTV and I can't emphasise the difference between RGB Scart and upscaled to 720p/1080i enough. Scart upscaled to fit onto your HDTV is still upscaling the inferior PAL picture, whereas this will be upscaling the full 720x576 broadcast, same applies to any set top box with hdmi/hidef output with SDTV channels.

Scart strips away so much of the original signal to PAL looks noticably nicer via HDMI.

I wonder if this set top box will be able to decode HiDef broadcast when they start next decade though.

Ultimately if you have a HDTV to benefit from this chances are you'll be hooked up to Hidef content from Cable or Sky as Freeview will be lagging behind a few years and Freesat FTV will only be BBC/ITV/CH4 if and when they launch it soon.

Agree with you on scart losing out to upscaled HDMI!

My standalone set top Echostar @ SD pales in comparison to Panasonic DMR-EX87 @ 720p or 1080i.

I tried scart on panasonic to compare the output as well. The digital picture was much cleaner via HDMI. Maybe component might come close but in noway can scart be considered HDMI's equal.

Picture resolution is more defined and suffers less digital artefact and lag.

ps.

This even upscales the image from my GC's RGB output to 1080i!

SD image when connected directly to scart on TV was horrid.

Image now truly magnifique!
