"Go to deal" goes to Grundig not PcWorld, but I can't see in advertised anywhere there anyway :?
#5
This was posted earlier today with Currys, but that one seems to be deleted. Just picked one up. Good Find.
#6
Can someone clarify something for me, if one does not have a HDTV could it be used as a freeview box for the time being?

Would a satellite be required for this temporary purpose?

It only has 1080i. Shouldn't it be 1080p?

Doesn't seem to have a timer setting either (just an alarm). If you want to do timed recordings, you need to let the box switched ON 24hrs.

hi on the argos site it has it as "Upscales to 1080i." but i dont know if thats only for the upscale part of the item and not the hd part from a hd chan ??

for the price this is a good way to get some hd on ya tv with out going to sky or virgin for 12 months

#12
hd broadcasts are only 1080i, and a lot of gear still only upscales to 720p/1080i so I would say the specs are right.
#13
No HD channel is broadcast higher than 1080i.
#14
Is there any way to get sky on these things?
#15
I bought one of these from Currys when they dropped to £69.97 on the 15th July. Do they have a price mathc policy within a certain amount of days? :x

No. For Sky HD you need to buy a sky HD box, which broadcast BBC HD and Channel 4 HD, but not ITV HD.

On Freesat you get BBC HD and ITV HD. (not channel 4 HD)

Did you know that in the US, where HD has been around for a few years, only 6% of households bother to receive HD? What does that tell us?

This is a receiver only. It does not record.
1080i is as high as you can get without blu-ray so no need to worry.
Good price for this.

It's BBC and ITV, but be aware that there are usually one or two programmes a day on ITV that are HD and BBC only has some programmes. Not what you see on BBC1.
I have just got Sky HD and the HD is great, but can't get ITV HD until EPG changes and there is vrey little on BBC HD worth watching. I was under the impression that F1 was to be in HD but it isn't!
I think this is a great price for the machine but be aware that there is very little HD content at the moment.
A lot more was promised but they are failing to deliver and freeview HD is coming out later this year.

You definitely need a dish and that will cost you as you will need to have a qualified person to install it. Can be £78 + VAT. Not really worth it. I have just done it and I bought a dearer one from Argos, which I regret no end.:x

Just to point out Freesat and Freeview are different things, the former by satellite and the later by terrestrial aerial, although most channels are shared by both, there are several exclusive channels only available on one.

return it and buy it again, currys/pc world give u 14days to get a refund.
Easiest way to do this is if they have another one of the same product, buy it then take it back on your £69 receipt.

Quite a lot. Some Welsh channels, Euro24 (in English, all news), NHK (some Japanese news and miscellaneous in English mostly), Aljerzeehra in English, two Idealworld channels, Bloomberg (finance), CNN, Teacher tv, ITV no HD, some Indian channels. BUT NO SKY, so you have to switch back and forth.

It says that something has to be installed properly, properly earthed and the dish has to face similar angle to that of a general sky dish as it should be properly aligned to get a good signal.
