Top quality manufacturer? Not in my view. They made some very average transistor radios.

Too true - has the name Grundig really been debased as far as this now?

Back in the day they were a quality producer of radios, TVs etc - but that was a very long time ago. Now it's just another name to stick on labels to con people into thinking they're getting a quality product, rather than just a pile of ***.

Above noted; they were always more radiogram than hi-fi. Disappointed you say they have sunk further - hey, ho, but all things are relative in Poundland. Unfortunately the deal link will show another Grundig torch

Can I watch TV on this?

Not a bargain as it's always one pound.

It's a pound shop remember! LOL

I disagree. The shop may always charge a pound, but the fact that they occasionally (or routinely for that matter) sell items worth much more makes those items a bargain. The item is not "always one pound" as it is sold for more in other shops.

Grundig is now after many changes of hands a Turkish company who make Beco products and now name them as Grundig and also licence the name to many other firms, e.g. Mobile Phones in Spain and various items in the USA

The OP is technically correct - it is the name of what was once a top quality manufacturer - trouble is that's all it is. It's one example of many manufacturers' badges having been bought to adorn cheaply made tat - like Hoover for instance.

Not a bargain.
If it was 93p in Poundland that would be a bargain.

Sick of seeing Poundland tat on here.

Button batteries too.... eeghh!! If you do "invest" in this get your batteries from ebay, got 10 button cells for £1.50 delivered instead of £1.50 each!!

Guess we shouldn't bother posting about plasma TVs for a quid then, as everything's a pound :)

For the sake of a quid, it's always handy to have a torch of this size on you, and at least this comes with batteries and is ready to go.

Agreed with some of the posters however, you regularly get cleaning products costing £2-3+ and a lot of 'Dragons Den' and JML and Innovations stuff ends up in Poundland, as well as some decent books and movies, if you don't mind spending a few minutes plowing thru the tat.

Sure there's stuff in there that's overpriced, even at a pound, but all you need to do is use your head before filling your basket with all sorts of junk, which is what they hope you won't do :)

Just because you don’t see something as a good buy and that a retail chain commonly features within the deal listings doesn’t automatically make the item ‘tat’ as you call it, or a poor buy. The quality of the product is not always dictated by the price or name and commonly this retailer sells branded items at prices well below what other stores may be selling the same product for.

If you don’t see something as a good deal vote simply cold.

Never get the point in people always saying 'yes but its a pound shop...everythings a pound!'

If you mean Beko then the white goods they make are low priced and highly rated. I'm sure this is just a licensed 'convenience brand' though.

I think I saw two packs of the same torches without the Grundig branding in Poundland recently too.
