£299.99 when added to basket.

Other sizes: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?srch=GT%20Aggressor%20XC%203&action=search&storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&langId=-1 (if link gets shortened - just search for it on halfords website)

I'm not a bike expert(/snob), so go easy. I've always liked this bike: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/rockrider-5-3-34963817/ but thought it would be perfect if it had hydro disc brakes instead. This GT seems like a good alternative to my un-trained eyes. Hope it helps someone. Especially if some is on the halfords cycle scheme.

Nice find but just make sure you get the right size as the link you gave goes straight to the 20" size ( large ) which will be too big for most people,The other sizes are on the left of the screen,

It's not even the same model, the deal posted is the XC3 much better speck all round

The comparable bike on Chainreaction is the Avalanche 3.0 Disk at £379.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=43257

The halfords version of this Bike ( Aggressor XC 3 ) posted, is better as it has hydraulic Disk brakes and the avalanche 3.0 only has mechanical disk brakes, which really highlights what a good deal this is.

Main difference = fork lockout

No Fork lockout, no disc brakes let alone hydraulic disc brakes.

I'm quite happy with a 'no suspension' well built bike for under £100 or so to get me from A-B, home to work etc.
Specialist bikes for people who genuinely run down mountains in competitions I accept cost a lot.
Anything in between is ... meh?

i got a claud butler pinelake for 100 quid more was 699 down to 399 with reba lock out, u turn rock shocx`s hydro disc`s they come as 18speed but a big ring fitted turns it into a 27speed few in some shops and few on flea bay bargain

For people who enjoy off-road biking & not going to the shops and back.

Hi all,

this would be a purchase for my boy for chrimbo, he rides his bike everywhere, 4 paper rounds, to school and back, to his mates etc etc. Is it going to last him or am I going to be replacing it in 6months time?

Thanks
Mark

I had one of these xc3, albeit a 2005 model. It was a fairly sturdy bike, but my only complaint would be that it was pretty heavy. I added some better pedals and some better tyres and it was perfectly usable for some XC and zapping around mini downhill in the woods.

It may not be an option to everyone, but if you are after something to do a bit of off road, it may be best to look for a good example of a second hand bike on gumtree or ebay. I sold my xc3 with the upgrades (worth about £150 in total) for £150 on gumtree. There are some perfectly good bikes to be had on there, and you wont be as bothered about trashing it :)

nice looking bike for the price, topcashback is 5% so .5 more than quidco!

Advice please....

Is this a unisex bike or should I be going for a "ladies" bike for the 5' 1" wife? Does it really make that much difference?

Thanks in advance!

Oh no - the shame of being seen on last year's model!

Surely only a really sad git would know/care anyway? It's just a bicycle you know (even if it's a reasonable one).

The carrera Kraken at halfords is very well specked for the money

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&partNumber=946525&langId=-1&cm_mmc=Googlebase-_-Adult+Bikes%2FMountain+Bikes-_-Na-_-Carrera+Kraken+18%22+Mountain+Bike+09&%24%24tid=mnw9_C17WCl19TVz1WIU1o-a_DuKAfDGNPMUD-WbJnMB1XxpKaxwZAEjx8L_aJE4#dtab

The carrera vengeance claims to have a higher RRP (which is just dodgy marketing) and is being sold cheaper than the kraken, but the parts are not as good as the Krakens, but definitely a good deal at that price.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_712173_langId_-1_categoryId_165499

Keep watching the halfords site as they change the pricing every few weeks and these bikes can be had for less than this by about 10% plus free£20 accessory voucher some times.

Im liking the kraken. Looks like a nice bike. Think Ill pop into halfords tomorrow. Two very good picks thanks.

I've got a kraken, I weight 15 stone and it feels very solid.

They are sometimes dearer in store but you can order on-line and pick up in store for the web price.

PS if you do get one, ride it round the car park and go through every gear and check they are all working, so if it needs any adjustment you can take it back in. Also be aware that the cables will stretch in the first few weeks, but halfords give you a free six week service so they can re-adjust them then.

I will get this bike on the ride to work scheme which will get 40% off so sounds like a winner!!!

Just checked and they got them in stock locally to me too which is good.

How do you use it? work? on the road?

Yeah thanks for the tips, ill make sure i get it checked from top to bottom.

I've used mine on the road, the lock out on the forks helps and at Sherwood pines on the single tracks and done a few jumps.

what area do you live in?
#36
There is a lock on the forks?? Sounds even better!!

Im from Liverpool. Wanted to get mountain bike to go to places like delemere and some tracks near by.
banned 1 Like #37
The "lock out" stops the forks from compressing which is good for road use. then just move the lever round for off road use. you also have a fork adjustment to set the compression.
#38
Slamdunnkin. You been a great help mate!! I have added rep for you.

Welcome....see you over at bikeraider.

The only thing I will add is get a chain stay protector to save your frame getting scratch by chain slap....you want the Super jumbo lizard skin to fit a Kraken

Good shout. Any ideas on speed and distance device?
