Horribly bloated game and an absolute pain in the butt to get playing online with. Mine is in the bucket already!

Save yourself £20+ and avoid this POC.

Check the negative reviews and forum threads first. Apparently its so buggy Steam are offering refunds for disgruntled customers.

err....without a console. :(

Only been available on the PC for a week. You do need a monster PC in order to play it though.

Was really looking forward to this, the modding scene for the other GTA's was great, maybe I will wait until they patch it...
#9
Is it really that bad? I was looking forward to this.

If the san andreas port is anything to go by this will be even worse. Do your frustration a favour and go for the console version. If you've not got a console yet ask for one for christmas

Yeah SA mods were great and with tools like open IV coming out its bound to be open to modding.

ummmm, broken game - i'm not buying it until they release a patch to fix their horrible optimization.

R* are supposed to have optimized the game for Multicore & 64bit, but fail to add DX10 support, wich then contributes to the game not having any Anti Aliasing - *Jaggies Galore*
#13
Apparently the game is ported from consoles with badly optimised performance.
Even if your PC is playable on Crysis with high settings with good frame rates, it will just manage to run GTA IV
#14
a patch will come soon

same thing happened with gta3

Anti aliasing isn't DX10  in fact i'm sure i had anti aliasing 11yrs ago on my voodoo 5500

I have it, it runs totally fine on my PC at 1900 x 1200 - I have a decent PC but it's not a monster - it runs Crysis OK on 1650 x 1080 res and medium settings.. I also have a 360 and so I use it with console controller for driving and then keyboard/mouse for everything else - it's seemless.

It is a little bloated though - you have to install the Rockstar social club. My major problem with it is that it seems to have lost the radio station that had Lazlow on - although you do get your own independant station for your own music.

i know AA isnt DX10, but R* said the only way to have FSAA in GTA IV is to code & run the game in DX10.

its most likely just an excuse so they dont have to add much to the game & just do a console to PC port - doesnt look like that plan panned out very well.

would ya mind posting ur spec?

would a...
Intel Q6600 quad @ 3.16
4gb ram,
ati x3870 <----- gussing thats wots gonna maybe restric it...

play it ok at full settings?
#19
I have:

E8400 @4ghz
4gb Ballistix
Saphirre 3870
Vista Ultimate 64

You can play it on full settings no probs, but it looks like **** and you feel like its warping [lagging] all the time. In the recommended requirements it states that a 3870 is advised, imo you need something better but I sure ain't upgrading just to play this bloated ****, specially when the 3870 eats everything else i throw at it..

I have a Q6600 at stock(2.4ghz), 4gb of Corsair(just rebuilt and currently at pitiful timings of 5-5-5-18) and I have a 8800GTX.

Nothing OC'ed(I am currently back to stock) It runs fine at 1900 x 1200. I'm aware my CPU is seriously hampering my GFX capabaility and my GFX card is much better than I am currently running

I don't know that full settings would be acheivable because you start going into 4X AA at 1900 x 1200 territtory and you need something quite special but with a PC like yours I wouldn't worry about how it would play too much. I find it useful to remind myself that a PC like mine(and presumably yours) has far better components than 99% of the population.

yer surpose games like crysis and this then r too much for the 3870 at full settings, wots the game like a mid settings? or is it still a bad console to pc conversion?

yer :D
brought crysis only to test it and found i just didnt like the game,
mite end up getting a ps3 still when the new grand turismo comes out for the ps3 and get this gta then i reckon
#23
Nah, not at all it's totally equal to the console. It is a conversion, but the only giveaways are the menu's - the rest of it is sparkling.

To put it in context, I wished this had been released on PC at the same time as console - I would have played it on PC, without a doubt, due mainly to me being able to use both control methods but also I find it more intimate on PC - the field of vision is so much greater on my very close 24" than my 4 foot away 50" plasma.

Yeah, crysis was quite poo gameplay--wise.
#25
hmm still very tempting to get for pc...reckon i mite make a purchase :D thx for answering my questions, rep added
#26
Don't buy it. Even meaty systems are having trouble running it fine.
#27
needs more patches...lol

This is yet another game leadened down with terrible DRM copy protection. It doesn't work, of course, the pirated version is freely available.

The worst thing I've heard is that the copy protection is so badly done that the pirated version runs significantly better than the one you buy from shops. If true that would be utterly disgusting. Pirates are already getting a better product for not needing to activate it online.... if the piratey version runs better too, then really whats the point of buying at all???

Played it on the 360, so I won't be getting the legal or illegal version, but I'd advise all but the diehards to leave this badly ported, malware infested, piece of sputum alone.

Shame, cause the game's okay.
#29
people will want2 buy it for online play but ive not bought it yet ill wait for a good patch 2 come out for it before i buy it
banned#30
If you've bought the version on the console don't feel so bad about downloading the pirated version. As long as you only play one copy at a time. I wouldn't look badly upon you.
#31
This is only worth it if you have a super computer and you don't mind waiting for the patch, just so you know.
#32
Sold out!! Besides the price has risen to £23.93
