Seems like allot of money for one half-decent track ("Better").

Kidding - heat added.

Cheap price, terrible album. Axl rose should be shot for releasing this.

You should be shot for jumping on the anti-Axl bandwagon.

It is a much less obvious record than most people like to listen to though. If anyone feels that's a slant against their intelligence, you're probably right.

It is a great album, hardly out of my car CD player, first 4 tracks are great and the rest are still pretty good !! Shacklers revenge, track4 (cannot remember name) and IRS etc. Heat added!

'Less obvious'? In what way exactly?

If you mean that you have to work hard to try and filter out the over-produced mess to get to the solid guitar work (on some songs) then I'd probably agree.

I love Axl, but he just set the bar too high, trying to create the perfect record and it just sounds tense. He was surrounded by too many yes men instead of guys like Duff or Slash who would just tell him to take it easy.

Shackler's Revenge is great, Madagsacar and Prostitute are also good, but it's just disjointed. It sounds like 15 years of different musical trends and every single idea thrown in.

You hit the nail on the head.I was a big fan of GnR and posted on many a forum when people were slating Axl Rose about the new album and how long its taken etc. However apart from the title track i thought it was awful. Its not a GnR album, its an Axl solo album under the guise of GnR.I still like Axl and wish there were more frontmen in rock like him but i think he tried to hard to come up with a "classic" cd and ended up with a mess of styles. Its more dance meets rock in most places.Ok Steve Adler might have been stoned most of the time but at least the real GnR never needed to use drum machines!

However going back to the reason for being on the site even though its an awful cd it is a very good price compared to what it was when it came out so a thumbs up.

I'm a big Roses fan but I have to say I was so dissapointed with this, Chinese Democracy is quite good the the rest of the tracks are very poor. So £4 for an old single is not great value.

Yep, not to mention 15 years worth of different drum, guitar, and vocal parts. It's a terribly randomised mix. As my mate pointed out, it's not just a different band to the GnR that did Appetite, it's three or four different bands, all on the same record, all at the same time. It's got enough moments of brilliance for me to love it, though. The guitar solo and the intro sream of Chinese Democracy, the chorus of Street of Dreams, the tension of the chorus of IRS, plus so much more. It's great, although it's a shame that a lot of the greatness is buried in the mess. Next album should be a corker, though.

Saw a few copies in the morrisons bargin bins at the checkouts, £3.99

Take it for what it is, a very good album in it's own right.

Expecting this to be a patch on the work of the previous line ups of GnR is unfair. Axl will never top what he did with Izzy, Slash and the rest. He's still got something to offer though, I reckon.

Shackler's Revenge is great,

Its interesting how we all see/hear things differently - for example I think the track Shacklers revenge is surely one of the most overproduced tracks on the cd.

To be honest after 15 years or whatever I think this cd was always gonna fail to live up to the hype - and was bound to be overproduced and generally OTT. But that's part of what I now like about it too.

After all its interesting to hear what Axel came up with having had all the money time and expertise he could have wished for flung at this project. Its not as good as as Appetite clearly - but, (puts on the tin hat) I think its better than the Illusion Cds.

Nevermind its only opinions - that's what makes music what it is I guess?

rotten album, voted cold

Better than the Illusion CDs? You 'avin a larf? Granted, the best of Chinese Democracy is way better than the worst of Illusions, but as a package - no way, Jose.
