Its a wirelss mouse that you can use on your desk or in the air, upto 30 metres away!
Trigger activated MotionSense technology translates your hand movements into on screen cursor motion for in-air operation. On the desk, the Air Mouse uses the latest in laser sensor technology giving you precise, smooth and flawless cursor tracking.

Ive seen this being used and its amazing! The concept is similar to how the Wii works but far more technical and accurate, you dont have to wave your arms all over the place to move the cursor, simple wrist movements is all you need.
£20 off the RRP I think its a great price for an amazing product.

what about the binoculars you'll need to see the screen?

The most useless invention ever?
how about a hands-free keyboard to go with it?

This would be great on my 40" screen in the living room to quickly change/start films, etc on my PC. Pity I can't justify the price though.

Worth looking at a wireless trackball as an alternative.

THE MOST USELESS INVENTION ?

WELL FOR ONE THING IT HAS A LONGER range
A lot of wireless Keyboards & Mice currently have a realistic range of about 2m , unless they're bluetooth enabled
Having tried a few , I ended up with a £15 wireless KB /mouse from Aldi ..has a 10M range & works very well
..admittedly 30M range for this particular mouse may be a bit of overkill ( not though.. if being used in presentations)
but if it guarantees a good signal from the other side of my 60 foot lounge when my Mac Mini s playing through my 60" plasma , THEN IT'S FOR ME.

SECONDLY THE " PICK UP & WAVE" functionality may not have its' apparent advantages but having an alternative to scrolling a wireless mouse down the side of a sofa may not be a bad idea

Or use a wiimote (lots of people will have them already) and use the smoothboard software to use the wiimote as a pc mouse. It can do most of the same stuff as this and also point the cursor where you want it, same as in the menus etc on the wii.

I see .. I don't know too much about games consoles , is the wiimote wireless or IR?

It works on bluetooth so you'll need a bluetooth pc or a bluetooth adapter (just a few quid).

The front of the wiimote is basically a high spec infra red camera, it looks at the sensor bar (which is simply 2 infra red lights) and from the position of the lights it can tell where it is. ie if the lights are far apart then the wiimote is close the the sensor bar, if they're close together it is far away etc. If they're in the top right of the camera's view then the wiimote is being pointed down and to the left.

None of that really matters, it's just how it works. All you need to know is with a bluetooth pc, wii mote and sensor bar you can get it so your wiimote will work with the pc exactly as it does with the wii.

There's other stuff you can do with it as well, worth a look if you're into gadgets etc:

(this is an old version and I don't think shows the pointing part).

Cool stuff:

Going off topic now so best to start a thread in misc if you have any questions about it, pm me the link if you do.

The Wii stuff, whilst utilising Gyration technology, it is inferior to the Gyration AirMouse. Also, the Gyration products use 2.4Ghz radio frequency, so no line of site is necessary, unlike the Wii. The Airmouse will do absolutely everything your standard mouse can do, on the desk. Lift it off and you have very accurate cursor control from anywhere in the room.

Whilst I agree it is perhaps a bit gimmicky for the regular PC/laptop user (that said its still a reasonably priced wireless mouse just to use on the desk), but if anybody has media centre or you're a teacher that uses interactive whiteboards or you do regular presentations this is a 'must have' piece of kit.

You only need line of sight for the pointing mode (which this product doesn't even have!). The other mode where you move it about in the air requires no line of sight either as it's bluetooth!

Most people have a wiimote and would be happy with the way it works so it will cost them practically nothing compared to this deal.

As I say, make up you own minds but for most people it's worth looking at the wii option.

Agreed.

voted this useless gimmick cold- go for the wiimote option for a fraction of the price
