  Also worth noting that there are plenty of mods to extend the life of this game, all of which you can play free.
  
  Of particular worth is Minerva, which was good enough to get the creator hired by Valve.

  Now I don't want to get anybody's hopes up but I checked the daily deal at 6pm and it was some Dino Beatdown (not a holdover from yesterday, that was Waveform). For some reason Steam have changed that deal to HL2. Could this finally be a sign of things to come?

  I thought 2004 had some really decent FPS games. Far Cry and Chronicles of Riddick to name a couple. Joints Ops and UT2004 were also great games with an FPS element to them, but oriented towards multiplayer. HL2 is a decent game, I personally hated inter-level loading, I thought it messed up the game. Far Cry had the right idea, load the complete level first and then enter it, and not load areas within a level. For this it's a no brainer.
  
  Get this game, it's much better than modern games such as Borderlands (awful and repetitive with no interaction).
