Where do you get the half price from?

This laptop is nowhere near worth £500 in the first place.

Note also this has a very poor graphics card and would not be suitable for even the most basic games.

See below, even on the Nvidia site it comes bottom of the list for the series 9 graphics cards, it is a "value" card.

My traveller battery packed up just after the warranty ended and I can't get another one anywhere - buyer beware!

3 years incl. pick-up and return service (15 months on the rechargeable battery)

Shame its only in NI seems like a really good buy
#6
Well spotted macseffect - perhaps the title could be altered to say only in NI, or the first post?

The graphics card is nowhere near as bad as you make out. Yes, it's a lower end GPU, but by no means the bottom of the stack.

Check this website for benchmarks on mobile graphics cards.......

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

and this page specifically about this GPU..........

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9100M-G.11351.0.html

It comes in at 117th out of 195 tested.

As for not running basic games, read the quote from the site above......"Compared to the old 8400M G, the performance of the 9100M G is nearly equal. Modern DirectX 10 games will run only in low details and resolutions (if fluent). Older DirectX 9 games, like HalfLife 2 or Far Cry run fluently in medium details."

Have you tried EBay?
#13
Would've been perfect for my parents with 3 year warranty, but shame I don't live in NI.
#14
Wow..... that's a great machine for an amazing price. Shame its N.I. only, I'd have been well up for getting myself further into debt if they had them for sale in Cardiff Lidl's! :p
#16
take a ryanair flight just add £5 to print out ur boarding card
#17
Wow that is quite a lot for minimal money. I find it hard to believe most people would need anything more for day to day activities (browsing, emailing, organising digital photos, school work etc)
#18
Good spot. Its not often NI gets a deal of its own. Normally companies slap stupid postage charges on NI deliveries meaning half the 'deals' that appear aren't deals to us at all.

Tried everywhere including emailing all the battery suppliers - nothing! It's a distinctive shape with BTY-L72 on it - if anyone knows where I can get one please pm me otherwise buyer beware on this one cos a laptop without a battery aint much good!
#20
Normally it's the other way round that you can get the deal everywhere except for in NI. Makes a change I suppose!

I brought a targa laptop from lidl 8 yrs ago for £1000, worked for 3 yrs then kept freezing still got it overheats and freezes

Spec is ok but it's hardly a lightweight. As someone pointed out 2.6kg plus charger! Most 'travelling' business laptops are closer to 2kg and 14in screen. Mine is 1.7kg and that is more than enough in a flight bag or briefcase with all the other things that have to be carried so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone travelling. Not a bad spec for the price as a laptop though.

Batteries have a limited lifespan they are intended to be replaced.

I'll bet there is fluff and dust all around the processor fan. I've cleaned my laptop out twice in 18 months and both times the vent holes have been nearly totally blocked. Otherwise check the fan is running.

Absolutely. Its well worth the 5 minutes of effort to open up your laptop and clean out the heatsink, fan and vents of any dust. Bit of compressed air, or some cotton buds and tissue can really make a difference to older laptops.

Its also worth re-applying some thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink, I did that to mine a while back and temps dropped by a few celsius.
#30
Thanks guys will try that! As I did last time but never round the processor just the fan.

I know that but you can't buy them anywhere - not even from Targa themselves!

When our Lidls opened about 5 or 6 years ago they had a brilliant offer on a Targa laptop. Great spec and as it was a launch offer a great price. However they were extremely unreliable. Some reports online suggested the returns rate was something like 30%. A friend bought a few of them and they all failed within a short time. On the other hand Targa's customer service was excellent. I think Targa rebrand stuff rather than building themselves so this one may be better.
#33
Hot deal any reviews on this would love some feedback on quality etc never heard of targa before
#34
seems like a good deal to me.voted hot!

if you can get it. I was at the Lisburn store and eight minutes past eight on thursday morning and was told "they are all sold out". I asked the checkout operator how many there was and he replied - two. Thinking I could rush to another store, I then phoned Lidl Headquarters and was was told they were all sold out in Northern Ireland. I asked him how many there had been. He admitted there had only been 2 or 3 per store. It seems a bit of a con.

Got mine yesterday. LIDL were taking contact details of people who were interested. Didn't expect much to come of it but then received a call on 27th from LIDL headquarters saying they have one reserved for me to pick up next day at the Bangor branch. Ace service. Apparently there were 15 other lucky folk who were reserved a laptop in that one store.

looks fantastic outputted to 1080p HDTV via hdmi, still some bugs to iron out like occasional buzzing in surround speakers when idle which goes away when playing any media.
