Something of the same thing posted months ago so just updating although this offer does not require a voucher / coupon.

previous post - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/457481/mot-only-27-nationwide

Car MOT @ Nationwide Autocentre (AA) NOW £27.00 WAS £54.00

For a limited period you can get a 50% discount off your MOT at any one of our 223 Autocentres across the UK.

There is an option to select that you are an AA member to get more discount BUT do not select this as although it does give you more discount, this is taken off the original price of £54.00 not £27.00 so effectively paying more overall.

e.g. selecting AA member option I would pay £36.18 but not selecting it means I still pay the £27.00.

Good deal if you are in need of a MOT shortly.

No need for any voucher / coupon

False economy as it is simply a way to get you in so they can charge exorbitant rates for repairs.

Much better off going to a garage you trust or an MOT center that does not do repairs.

I second that, Nationwide have in the past tried to charge me for repairs that were non-existent. I use the local council for my MOTs now where I get an accurate MOT test, not just some profit making ploy.

Can't comment specifically on Nationwide Autocentre, but there's a garage/dealership near me that always does it MOTs at £30 (used to be £25 until recession bit), and touch-wood I've never been done, nor has hubby or father-in-law. Not everyone is on the fiddle.

You should try going to a dealer to get a Aston Martin services / MOT or even just a Jaguar. Their philosophy is if it is slightly worn it gets scrapped and new part fitted. Customer billed for parts (full price) and labour (huge fee). :w00t:

All depends on the garage and machanic's in my view.

I have used a reliable Nationwide autocentre for a number of years and still use them, although it would seem they are few and far between.

I have never been over charged or found stupid little things on a MOT to fail the car on. Also, there are fairly large discounts for AA members.

Just had 2 cars MOT at the Nationwide Autocentre in Ringwood Road in Poole, Dorset. Both sailed through with no problems.

Hot deal if you can find a decent branch though!!

If you can stay around and watch while the MOTs being done is the best policy, then if your even slightly mechanically minded they shouldn't be able to con you.

I have used this offer three times. First time car failed but it was a serious fault with brakes so can't complain there. I had the work done at another garage and paid a retest fee which was also charged at half the retest fee( about £13 I think) second year car passed no problems and the mechanic even fixed my bike so I could cycle to work ( I managed to break the gears putting it in the car). Last MOT was on my husbands car which is just 3 years old everything was fine except headlight bulb, which my husband knew was dodgy (grr!!) £12 for new bulb which is a bit pricey but still less than full MOT price and had no problem with light since ( it had been intermittently failing for about 18 months previously). Staff have always been very friendly and helpful so I would use them again. (Peterborough)

Currently in dispute with Nationwide Autos re failed MOT due to pitted brake disc on a 55 plate car with low mileage.

Had car serviced with a competitor prior to MOT and brakes judged to be in excellent condition only 2 weeks before MOT. Took car for MOT to Nationwide for half price MOT and car failed MOT.

Then took car to third indepenedent garage for a brand new MOT and surpise suprise car flew through MOT and tester said absolutely nothing wrong with the brake disc that nationwide autos had failed my car for.

AVOID at all costs!

I took mine in a couple of months ago it failed on a chip in the windscreen and a numberplate that was a bit scruffy (both things had passed the year before). It then went to the local garage a week later with nothing different and funnily enough it passed.

I would NEVER set foot in the place again, but to be fair I'm not sure I'd be allowed back through the door after the erm valid comments I made:whistling:

Do they even do numberplates or windscreens?

I used The Sun offer before Christmas with no problems at all.

I would say it helps if you know your car is sound or you know about cars so that they don't try to pull the wool over your eyes!

Sad but true, all garages should sing from the same hymn book but there will always be some that are in it for themselves rather than to give a fair and reliable service.

Same here with my local. Never been charged for phantom problems. I trust them much more than the dealership that sold me my car.

If somebody here is happy to tar everyone with the same brush and say AVOID at all costs because he got turned over by his local branch, should I be just as helpful and say DON'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE at all costs?

I use tesco clubcard tokens. £12.50 worth gets an mot (with £4 added in cash).

10 year old car passed two years running. No complaints here.
