How do you know when your pod has ran out and no longer has coffee or milk in?

Using this seems like guess work with an awful lot of waste?

What is the advantage of coffee in a plastic pod? It's fresher? Better?

I don't get it?

Halp!

As far as I know, the machine has 15 bars of pressure, which gives you the crema on the top like you get in coffee shops. Standard coffee sells at four pounds for 16 pods in supermarkets, so 25p a pop. Lattes and cappuccinos need a milk pod too (which should froth and steam like in coffee shops) so they work out at 50p a go. Seems expensive, until you have to pay for a chai latte in Starbucks. If you buy a lot of coffee in shops, this will probably pay for itself after 20 coffees.

The pods are one use btw.
