Cheap knives = poor value.

Not bad for a student though

According to reviews, the knives are sharp, but the main part is made of plastic. Anyway still good value, head added

Anyone know of any good offers on better quality knifes? (Assuming the above arent great) Im looking for a good set of kitchen knives for my mum this Christmas but have no idea what to look for. If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated!

If this isn't a good offer for you.

I know I sound a bit like a broken record on the subject of kitchen knives, but my advice is to just buy one really good chef's knife rather than a set. I use Global knives and can strongly recommend them, but a good knife for any given person is all about personal choice. Off the top of my head, Shun knives have been well reviewed recently, or if you want European rather than Japanese steel, Wusthof are usually a good bet. It might be worth taking your mum around a kitchen supplies shop and getting her to hold a few different ones just to see what she's comfortable with then buying from that range.

For good deals, House of Fraser have fairly regular sales and they tend to stock good quality stuff. Otherwise price comparison sites are good once you know what make and model you want.

Get down to TK Maxx. Can normally find some good Henckels knives there if you are willing to root around. Go for the ones with the two blokes on them, not one.

Looks to me like a dalek with a pair of headphones plugged in, I thought it was some kind of weird Doctor Who themed MP3 player.

I totally agree - I splashed out on a decent chef's knife a while back, and it's bliss to use, feels great in the hand. I've never understood the need for so many different sized knives. This one is perfect for 90% of jobs, and will do at a pinch for the other 10%!
