Half Price DVD's at your local Kwik Save

Ok here goes my first post. Today i went into my local Kwik Save store and due to the current crisis within the company they have half priced all of their DVD's and CD's. The collection of half priced DVD's and CD's included reasonably new films and CD's such as 'Fun with Dick and Jane', 'Inside Man' and Beyonce's 'B-Day' album. Not sure if this is the same at all the Kwik Save's that are left but my local is in Handforth Wilmslow might be worth giving yours a try. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks Mate. I asked the manager and he told me that the DVD's and CD's would not be going back up in price they would stay half price till they all went.

Nice one...you don't happen to know if the one in Gravesend, Kent is still open do you?

The Kwik Save group was merged with Somerfield in 1998. Somerfield's new owners sold off the loss-making Kwik Save brand and most of its stores three months ago.

we had a lovely somerfiled - which then changed into a nasty kwik save full of...... empty shelves.

there is NO fresh fruit or vegetables, NO fresh meat and there wont be for weeks.

at least im moving on saturday so i dont have to bother with such a crappy shop in which to do my shopping, but i may pop in and raid their dvds if cheap enough.

I have heard that Kwik Save are on their very last legs...they sacked the cleaners and made the shop staff do the cleaning, they changed to Nisa, couldnt pay them so Nisa pulled out, now the fruit and veg suppliers havent been paid either and Kwik Save sold off the shops they owned (not leased) last week SO this is either Kwik Save bowing out and making as much cash back as they can by selling cheap, or a way to make some money to pay their suppliers - either way, doesnt look too good for them. Still, good for us DVD bargain hunters! Thanks again for the post!!

Will be a bit difficult at my local store, management marched in last Tuesday and closed it as they have done many others so nothing to sell off now. It's all whitewashed and empty.

Knew this was on the cards since September last year, it's been like a Russian supermarket! 6 packets of cereals spread over 6 bays and not much of anything else to sell! (Assuming that Russian supermarkets are still like that?)

Well, I guess the best way to give your customers a 'quick save' is through not having any stock to part them from their cash.

Bdum tsh! :giggle:

a couple of my maes are working for a store near me and they told me this. Kwik Save Head Office closed down 91 stores out of about 210. The Remaining 120 odd stores are still open but not doing to great e.g not selling any veg, milk etc. as stated by a few of you.
I don't understand why they would close lots and keep some open if they were going to just close the shops that are left open in the end beacuse they would be losing money on wages all the time. Anyway hope some of you have found bagged some cheap DVD's:thumbsup:

They closed the ones they owned, they can sit there closed and lose very little or be leased out to someone else. The leased ones they have to pay rent anyway, so all they need to do there is make enough to cover wages and try and reduce the rent burden to a point where it's covered by the new rent coming in from the owned property.

Eventually they can transition and survive as a small scale local operator. It's not a good business plan but it's about the only one left. The writing was on the wall since Somerfield largely gutted the company and turned the profitable stores into Somerfileds. The stores now owned by Kwik Save are all the lower performing ones anyway so without the money spinner stores to support them it's not surprising the company has struggled.

I worked for the KS/Somerfield magazines for a while and this has been on the cards for ages.

I stumbled into my local Kwik save a couple of weeks ago and honestly thought it had shut down - there were only about two aisles with things on the shelves and the only fresh produce was ancient bananas...

Somerfield sold off some of the kwick save stores that it had and re named some of the others only to shut them well some of them because they where not that good and the price in the now"sumerfield stores was a lot more than the older kwick save

i think they made a mess of this bit like some other shops that are going under and have done in the last few weeks

ah well life as we know it but for how long hmm
