£13 more and I get an honest and fair test from my local council. Won't vote though as this may appeal to some who have a reliable and honest outlet near them.
#2
I wonder how much 'work that needs doing' they will find. I wouldn't let anyone from Halfrauds touch my car.

Your best bet is to find a coucil run place that does not do repairs and as such has no incentive to fail you. I get mine done by the local coucil bus company. You pay the full VOSA £51 but its fair.

I actually had my car MOTd by Halfords about 2 months ago - and they did it honestly.

Let's be sensible here ,there is no way halfords would bogus fail an MOT. Imagine the reputational damage from that. It is fair to say however that remedial work they do is not cheap.

If anyone has some evidence of them breaking the law by failing cars that should have passed ,go ahead ?

Totally agree - I've been taking my car to Halfords/ Nationwide Autocentres for years, and I've received much better service than going to the dealerships.

Personally I don't see Halfords as "experts" I see them as the supermarket of car parts etc.

Last time needed a headlight for my car they gave me the completely wrong one. That plus the fact the headlight was about 3 times the price of a normal auto parts shop put me off ever using them again. Even in an emergency.

These garages are different from the Halfords shops. They bought out Nationwide Autocentres last year

I've never had a problem with Autocentre doing my MOT. Quick, polite and efficient service and, best of all, never any trouble getting the car passed.

Personally I have no time for all the bias and scare-mongering that gets repeated every time this offer gets posted. I'm quite happy to recommend my local Autocentre and I'll be using them again this year.

I've used various Nationwide and Halfords autocentre for years without any problems. On the other hand i've used pleanty of local garages that while generally honest, they have not been professional e.g. my local drives you back home after dropping your car off which sounds great, until the apprentice slips out that they use the cars people have it for repair. I also had one that told me i had 10,000 miles left on a tire that had 2mm of tread left - that could of been quite dangerous for someone that didn't know better.

Don't judge until you've used them.

Well I used Nationwide autocentres for the first MOT my last car was due.

They passed it, but said the emissions were borderline and would need their fuel additive at £17 a small bottle and that my brakes were nearly shot and could do with being changed.

I saw through this. The brakes lasted another 40 thousand miles and the car went straight through the next 3 mots elsewhere with really good emmissions.

Use nationwide / halfords at your own risk. Our local one was accussed of slashing the gators on CV joints to accelerate wear also.

Hi Mike how you doing, not seen you in a while. Are you still working at Halfords?

Halfords/Nationwide mot deals are always knocked on here, I've used them for 3 mot's a year for the past 4 years, and only once had a fail, which was for something I should have checked before hand, I find the people there honest and friendly and would recommend them to anyone,

Well, I know your comment has not alot to do with the OP but I do agree with you on the above. I worked for Halfords for 3 months as a Store Manager and left because of the lack of training by its teams. I was fitting bulbs from day one, never had any training. I also almost blew up the electrics in somebodys car as I took the wrong lead of the battery, again no training. I have never used Autocentres before so cannot comment, but if I can tell you that I can buy a headlight bulb for my car for £3 using my trade card and they still make a profit when they charge customers £9.99 for a bulb would some degree show how much of a rip off this company is. I would imagine as Halfords have purchased Autocentres they would also encourage them to rip people off. Again this im my opinion only. I have not been into a Halfords since, as even on trade I can find products cheaper elsewhere.

Ok, you got me. I've been a member for 4 and a half years, just waiting for someone to knock Halfords, because I work for them.

Why is it that it's ok for people to come on here and slate the service, but satisfied customers can't come on and share their experience, without being accused of working for the company in question? How small minded some people are.

Feel free to check out THIS THREAD, posted just over a month ago, where I queried the direct link for the deal.

And if I could really be bothered... I'd upload a copy of my receipt... but to be honest, I couldn't care less if you think I work for them or not.

Also... I said they were honest. I didn't say they didn't find any faults.

shows how much you know as it is £54.85 for a class 4 MOT as recommended by VOSA. Plus where does the money go to that you pay the council?

The money that you pay to the council goes to the council.

Wow you need to take a chill pill mate. It was a joke, if you had a sense of humour you would have known that. Anyway i insist that Halfords would rip you off in the sense that they would probably rip you off by telling you that you need stuff that you don'y. I'm assuming they would work the same way as Kwik Fit. They can fail a car for something that they recommend needs fixed but not legally.

I looked at this offer yesterday and today it has changed to just £10 off.

But I went ion to my browser history and was still able to book the price of £27.42 by using this link !!! may not work if looking new, but if you have previously looked at the offer it may still give you the lower price

Had mine done last week following the above, they failed it on beam of headlamps to high on both left and right side and charged £13.99 + vat to fix it.

They didnt notify me before fixing it (ok only minor) but I couldnt check it till it had been fixed (limited time on the ramp for each car and alternative was to fail and charge a full retest fee next day). still cost me less than usual full fee so cant complain too much
