half price you say, but a MOT is only £35 anyway, it costs the garage £20 for each MOT it does, my friend has a garage which does MOT's

Hot from me

I've had cheap offer MOT deals before and they always seem to find a small problem that makes up the cost. Last time it was a faulty headlight bulb that needed replacing at a total cost of £35.
In my opinion there was nothing wrong with the bulb.

Wouldn’t even take my car there to be washed let alone have an MOT. Had a bad experience with a previous MOT, they said my car needed almost £1000 worth of work including a new fuel tank. Only thing it really needed was a £2.50 exhaust bracket when I took it to a main dealer for the MOT.

Might be a half price MOT but I am almost sure if you take your car there you will need work doing for the MOT.

Sorry but cold from me plus my local Ford garage only charge £24.95 all the time.

That might be what your mate charges , My local garage charges the full cost which is £53 .10 So this definitely gets a HOT from me. I had my car done there last week, and there were no faults and had a pass,

Yes, but they can find faults in all MOT centres, not only NA so that's irrelevant, isn't it?

There will be many negative responses and cold voting, mainly due to this bunch, very much like Kwik Fit, etc. being essentially a bunch of cowboys. I know this may seem like a sweeping generalisation (apologies to any genuine employees of this group). However, they do tend to prey on the weak and vulnerable car owning members of our society, ie. old fogeys and women (sorry to all you car savvy females out there). I personally would not trust them anywhere near my car.

My MOT test centre charges £45 - and you KNOW they won't make up faults as they only do MOT's and aren't interested in doing the work themselves.

NA (and most other national chains) make their money from replacing bits like tyres, shocks, exhausts, discs and pads and so on. Chances are they're more likely to fail your car on something they'll be all to happy to sell you.

I just had my MOT done at my local Ford main dealer for £24.95 and it passed with flying colours no additional work required.

I have been using mine for the past couple of years and have been very happy with the service there and so have a lot of my friends and work mates.

I just wish we could vote cold more than once on this as I am sure someone will get ripped of by this deal. Also did Nationwide Autocentres used to be called Apple Cars? I remember something on telly a long time ago about them ripping people off. Charging £100 I think for an MOT, Service and Krypton tune, when none of the staff new how to use the Kryton tune machine.

Maybe we should start a new thread for MOT's at Ford £24.95 and no sign of being ripped off

£53.10 is the maxiumum allowable charge.

I doubt in area where there are nationwide autocentre, kwit fit or a range of garages the charges is little more than £30-40.

A few Years ago there was a Nationwide service centre called Apples, that was on Watchdog and had been investigated by Which. Apparently they took 10 cars into 10 different service centres and 9 of them tried to rip off the female drives for work they didn't need. Apples went quiet and then both Watchdog and Which investigated them again a few Months later and found out they hadn't changed one thing and were still ripping people off. They then changed their name to Stop and Steer as they were taken over by Kwik Fit but yet again were investigated so changed it to Nationwide Autocentre. The weird thing is none of the staff were sacked and so carried on ripping people off.

Why would a service centre sell MOTs for £20 when they cost £20? I doubt its subsidised by the Sun and is more likely because they can get the money back on a full price MOT by unnecessarily failing MOTs and then charging ridiculous prices for carrying out the work.

I would not trust my toilet waste with Nationwide.

They failed my car because the tax disc was 1cm inside the wiper area.

They always do half price MOT's because they make up the money on retests, and ripping people off.

That's a good idea from Frost1979. Forget the Ford part though, any reputable company that will do an honest MOT for £25 or less should be included.

They probably didn't have any discs, pads, shocks or anything in stock that would fit it to sell you :-D

We've done that to death though.

A list of good places that'll do an MOT for £25 or less would be more useful.
