Good value for the MOT but these guys will try and sell you everything but the kitchen sink once your car is with them so be careful.

True enough, but not sure they're much worse than all the others who are also at it. I had a voucher for half price last year while they were still Nationwide, but won't be going back after attempts to overcharge and find things that clearly didn't need doing. Will be following MSE advice later this year and going to a local Council run mot station.

Do people realise that your local council offer MOT's, ... They have to. and they are great.
35.00 take it to your local branch, its the place that service and repair all the trucks they use.

They have even put in free bulbs ect.. and no charged, they have been amazing. and they dont sell you anything... Why because they have nothing to sell you.

I take mine to the cardiff branch

I did one of these half price ones through Halfords recently, and also last year when they were Nationwide Autocentres, and they didn't charge me a penny extra for anything. My car is pretty old so I was surprised but pleased. Maybe it depends on the branch you choose.

I had enough trouble when they were Nationwide Autocentres. My car went in for an MOT and within fifteen minutes I'd received a call saying that there multiple faults with the car, all of which would mean a fail, but of course they could resolve them prior to the MOT for £550!!! Funny thing is my car had received a service at my dealership a week before the MOT and there was nothing wrong with it, needless to say they were quick not to charge.

I think Halfords are taking a punt with their name branding all these cowboy garages

most of these garages were previously Halfords garages, sold to AA, AA sold to nationwide, and Halfords have taken them back.

i use to rave about my local autocentre in sandhurst, always put my old 406 through first time, showed me the list of recommended work but never pressured me into it.

until my recent mot a week ago where it failed on brakes and after diagnosis it needed £300 of work. they did the work but it didn't fix the problem, but they didn't tell me and put it through the mot anyway, and gave it back to me with a faulty brake valve sensor. refund expected shortly.

Not all councils offer this service, think its only county councils

BTW there are many MOT only places popping up we have http://www.motmax.co.uk around here, check the offers page for £10 off so MOT is £35

i believe if they mot their own vehicles, and have an mot test centre, they are required to provide mot's to anyone who needs it. i could be wrong, but that was my understanding.

Yeah, over two years now. No issues so far. Some small DIY work required :) but that cost nothing as no spares were required. Toyota engine is strong so fingers crossed, will still be able to run it cheaply. Rear tyres where cheap £134.00 for the rear pair fitted
