Based on the experience I and others have had with Samsung's HT-DB120 all-in-one (http://www.google.com/search?q=ht-db120+PROTECT&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t), I'd expect these will have died of overheating within a couple of years. Caveat emptor.

Ahhh, why dosnt it have a optical connection?! Need one for my 360.

Because it's cheap
#11
optical input is a must, but as this dont even have DTS then u will get away with just having basic connections.
its worth spending the extra for DTS though
#12
any possibility i can use the speakers with another unit?

I think the cheapest system with optical is the one from comet for around £120
#15
No Optical inputs and no DTS, might be cheap but I think you'd be better spending the money elsewhere.
#16
People still use DVD players?
#17
i have a sony bravia 40w5500, ps3, and sky hd, does anyone think this would enhance the experience?

Picked up today, Newspaper advert showed this model to have hdmi connection so when found out it didnt I complained and said I wanted the model with HDMI which they didnt have as the advert was a misprint. Anyway I managed to get out of them a Panasonic 5.1 home theatre kit model SC-PT70 which retails at £149.99 for only £77.49.HALF PRICE. Well worth the 10 minute arguing session.

Review from a buyer...

"I returned this as it was rubbish. The sound was awful in my 12x13 living room. I went and brought a proper amp and speakers
#20

Fiber optic is superior in transmission quality. It's also is completely unaffected by high frequency noise. I wouldn't want to be plugging in any equipment (360, bluray etc) with analogue connections in comparison to the digital optical connection.

But dont get me wrong, If you want a lil 5.1 set up and go system. This is the one for you.
#25
I'm considering it. Understand that it lacks optical and HDMI. Not bothered about the DVD player, play most of my media through the xbox 360 anyway; it upscales the picture quite nicely.

What I want to know is how good the speakers are; 330 RMS sounds like a lot compared to my current 25 RMS 2.1 logitech speakers, but will I notice THAT much difference? Also, how would it connect; a standard 3.5mm jack or messing about with a collection of phono calbes to get 5.1 out of it?

Whats the best just sub and speaker system?

For under £200??

I've got a PS3 so don't need the DVD player
#33
330 watts... this is for a baby's room lol... Good for the kid's to shut them up while they are watching... anything else, not worth the investment.

i got a ps3 too but the expensive gadget does not read my 320gb passport external hard drive so it's useless for me to play film's through... so getting a system with a dvd or blu-ray player is worth the money, it means ur ps3 will live longer because it wont be used for everything!

got mine hooked up to a samsung 1000watt system via optical with DTS =D and then i use the usb connection on the dvd player to watch of my external. haven't used my ps3 for blu-ray! to expensive, rather download them.

For those wanting to use ps3, xbox 360, sky hd etc. You need optical input to get true surround sound.

Normal analogue will just deliver 2 channels of sound; left and right. Optical will deliver a different channel to each speaker. So for example if in game, or watching movie if someone is behind you firing you would hear gun fire just from behind much more realistic and desirable.

so you say this is no good for ps3, sky hd box and hd tele?
#37
not for real surround sound no
#38
Hmmm... so is DTS a big step up?

What then is the cheapest (but not crappy) 5.1 system which has DTS AND optical in? I've been having a look and can't find anything under squillions of pounds!

How about £230?

Yamaha RX-V365 AV receiver (£149.95) plus a set of Yamaha NSP-270 speakers (£79.95) from Richer Sounds? Alternatively, if the £200 limit is strict, maybe the Sony STRDH500 AV receiver (£119.95).

You'll need some interconnects too, of course...
