Only takes twice as long to get to London as Virgin, so great if you've got nothing better to do.

Still a good deal if you want to go to London, so why be negative?
#3
How long does it actually take, and are they usually reliable? Thanks

London Midland take 1hour48minutes from Coventry (2:15 to New Street)
Virgin take 1:20 to New Street on their fastest runs, (59minutes to Coventry)
The cheapest LM walk up fare is £9, Virgin's is £41.
If using any of those fares please note their validity on trains is very restrictive (especially the LM fare which is super off peak) on weekdays, though both tickets are valid on every single train on the weekend and bank holidays, though you can use a VT ticket on LM (don't know why you would want to, but there you go) LM tickets are not valid on VT services.
If you are on the wrong train for your ticket type please be aware that you are liable to a penalty fare with LM, with Virgin they will charge you the highest standard single ticket for your journey. As always it is cheapest to book in advance, London midlands site, http://www.londonmidland.co.uk is very easy to use ad offers you tickets for all train operators, so that is the site I recommend.

As for reliability, they tend to be very good, there is one 'direct' train an hour to Euston from New Street, but if you get a Northampton train, the same unit will continue to Euston after sitting at Northampton for ten minutes usually. Also note, London Midland trains only sometimes have a trolley service, http://www.londonmidland.com/your-journey/onboard-catering/ for a full list, so make sure to take your own food and drinks! If you want 20% off at station outlets, I recommend one of these http://www.bitecard.co.uk/home.asp

Happy travels!

Chiltern serve a totally different area, Birmingham, Warwick, Leamington, Banbury, and also arrive in a different terminus station. But you can get very cheap fares, and if you pick up a timetable, the trains marked with a B are operated by old intercity stock, which in comfort terms, is sublime. After September, Chiltern will actually be competing with Virgin time wise as they are upgrading their line, the fastest times will be about 90 minutes from London to Birmingham Moor Street. Moor Street is such a superior station to New Street, I recommend you use the centenary lounge there :)

Hope that helps someone :)

Good deal. You can get London Midland from Liverpool to Euston (two trains changing at Birmingham @ £9 each). Takes about 4 hours vs. 2hr 10m on Virgin but pricewise it can be a lot cheaper than Virgin and far better than National Express coaches. It's the option no one ever thinks about.

£4.50 each way for a turn up and go ticket to/ from the west midlands - london, is very reasonable. The journey takes just over 2 hours and is much better than the bus..... oO

Can't find anything for £9.00 from Birmingham new street to London.. and also the website is so confusing
#12
great deal... but I think this could be the worst website ever!
#13
you need to book thru the special link on the homepage, otherwise you will be offered full price.... super off peak returns valid after 11am on monday to friday, anytime weekends...

Thanks a lot just booked Stoke to London for £7.45 return (with railcard), so this offer is half price from Stoke so probably other stations north of Birmingham too.
#15
Can anyone recommend any good day trips from London on this route?
#16
if you go on virgin trains, go to offers then choose a fare. I choose coventry to London, with a railcard it is 9.90 return on a virgin train, which only takes 1 hour.
