Quite a regular price drop on these. Always see it for around this sort of money. Certainly worth every penny though

These drop to this price every year, but I've decided to go for this set this year round!

Have another Halfords Advanced Professional toolkit, and it's been superb!

I have a couple of the smaller sets they are very good, for those that don't know these are re-branded snap on tools.

    I'm certain this is false.

There are a number of rumours about Halfords Pro being re-branded Draper Expert, but again I don't know if that is true either.

What I do no, for certain is that my first set of Halfords Pro ratchet spanners are 100% definitely Gear Wrench tools:
    apextoolgroup.com/bra…nch
I know this because the old Halfords packaging actually has the GearWrench logo on it.
I also have the 150 piece set similar to the one in this dealk, and the spanners are virtually identical, so I'd say the ratchet spanners are still GearWrench ones.

The Halfords Pro stuff is very good.

    Sorry but that's incorrect.

Although, they are still very good tools.

do ant of these sets come with screwdriver? hammer etc

  14. ManMang0's avatar
Better deal than normal. Its normally 50% off so the 170 piece is normally £125.

I purchase the 150 piece for £100 a couple of weeks ago.
  15. Dodge62's avatar
It comes with screwdriver bits and a handle, though I wouldn't call it a substitute for a proper decent set of screwdrivers. No hammer, though I suppose you could use the biggest ratchet driver as a hammer if you were desperate and mechanically unsympathetic.

Definitely nothing to do with Snap-On. I have some Snap-On tools and Halfords Pro, and usually reach for the Halfords stuff first, mainly because of the convenience of having it all laid out nicely in the case. But if you look closely you can clearly see the Snap-On stuff is superior - as it should be, a set like this in Snap-On would cost thousands of pounds.

I've had this set (Or one very much like it) for about 5 years now. Really good quality and comes in really useful when tinkering with the cars. Especially the spark plug spanner for changing the plugs on her Mini and my Impreza (PITA)

Don't forget, Halfords Pro range comes with a lifetime warranty!

I once took a 5yr old adjustable back to them (kept the receipt in bottom of the box underneath the plastic for the tools) and they exchanged it straight away no issues

The last time I did TopCashBack I clicked and collected and it tracked. Plus Halfords are part of the faster payment merchants, so you get your money sooner rather than later. If you're not 100% sure on this then you can register for Quidco's "In-Store" cashback scheme. On a click and collect purchase that you pay for with the registered card you will currently get 4% cashback. See below:
    quidco.com/in-…rs/
    Register your card:
Log in/register for Quidco, then click on the "Browse" button (top left of screen), select in-store cashback, then go from there.........

These are good sets, very good even for the price, particularly as a fairly comprehensive basis for a good set of tools, but I've said it on here before and it say it again if you are working on old cars definitely consider a set of 6 sided sockets to go along with it (sealey professional sets of sockets & spanners etc are equivalent in quality/price to these sets of you only want bits and pieces) as these are much more likely to round off old bolts. (Not a failure of the Halfords sockets specifically just generally for 12 sided sockets). I would also say the screwdriver bits in the plastic case are crap but don't let that put you off. Also remember the warranty is good but doesn't cover rachet mechanism. The actual ratchets are serviceable but the ratchet spanners are not so don't use them for anything real heavy (as in do the first turn with a regular spanner on stuck nuts ets). Also last thing as these rachet spanners are not reversible it is possible to get them totally stuck in tight areas...

I got mine in around 1995 when it was £200, it was slightly different to this set, in a different box & had a few more pieces in. In that time I`ve had 2x 1/4" extensions snap their ends off & the original box snapped along its seam "hinge", all changed under warranty despite me loosing the receipt ages ago. I use it quite a lot to work on cars.

The ratchets do lock up if you exert too much torque on them, released by banging them on the floor, but they havent broken as such.

Thing is, my brother got this set a few years ago, & irritatingly it no longer includes a 7mm allen key or socket, which, as some of you will know, is the size you need to undo brake calliper bolts on 80% of cars.. So dont forget to pick one up separately..

    Other than that, recommended.

If this is still out of your budget the bits of this that are most likely to benefit from the warranty are available for 20 quid here, so coupled with a very good quality powerfix set from lidl here (I use this set all the time never broken) and you've got everything (apart from ratchet spanners which are cheap enough elsewhere if you want them) + the bonus of 6 sided sockets should you need them.

Just finished changing my exhaust. Managed to do it without taking the wheel off (......). The nuts and bolts were an ass to get off but I've genuinely surprised at how comprehensive and somehow quality this kit is. Everything is in there for the majority of jobs on a car. The only thing missing is a longer bar and a torque wrench. But you can't ask for anything I guess! Well worth £100
