If people drive around in old sheds they deserve all they get - anything half decent will be passed as it would anywhere else.

Great service always from halfords MOT centres.....not their fault if you are driving junk.

Really don't understand why people aren't taking their cars to the council centres, much fairer testing.

Isn't that generally the way these daily target based garages work by 'finding' unnecessary work.

Had my car serviced by them, during which they phoned to inform me that the front discs and pads all needed changing as worn to makers and legal limits respectively.. Did I want them to do it? I thanked them for the information but graciously declined their kind invitation. Took the car to Just MOTs the next day for its MOT which it passed with an advisory on the rear pads only! Wouldn't trust these people ever again. The only reason they did the service was that it was free in settlement over a dispute for last year's MOT (a Tesco Clubcard voucher deal) which they failed due emissions, did they want me to fix it then?. No, and again no problem at Just MOT, it passed with no problems.
Two different Halfords Autocentre branches, same experience, dire!
    Would recommend Just MOTs though.

If they look after cars like they look after bikes I'd rather have a bunch of monkeys checking my car, although it can be tough distinguishing.

I used this offer last year and had no issues, bottom line is if your car's not roadworthy then it will fail wherever you go imo

halfords actively search for work by measuring the discs with a micrometer, nothing wrong with that and the only way to check wear limits
the discs aren't measured for a mot and the mechanic would just give them a quick glance especially if mot's are all they do and they need to get as many done in a day as possible
so tbh if you have a poorly maintained car thats likely to fail a stringent mot i'd say take it somewhere like just mot's on a busy day as well

So for the sake of argument, Halfords do a more stringent (longer) test than say the council test centres, taking upto maybe an hour, how does Halfords make any profit on this?
Btw the council test centres also test all council vehicles, taxis, buses and ambulances, so I would think they are very stringent.

    Err, don't you mean "You're"?

Pot and kettle come to mind ;)

If you look back, you'll see that he doesn't understand full stops or capital letters either. Then there's the "withing" instead of "within"; "past" instead of "passed"; "checks" instead of "check"; "its" for "it's"; "thats" for "that's"; "mot's" for "mots" (or "MOTs"), and "whats" for "what's". Not that I'm counting ;)

An MOT is just a road worthiness check. They can do a visual inspection and make an advisory. For brakes they'll just make sure it stops.

So you're complaining about a service where they checked for parts close to the end of their useful life and you're comparing it to an MOT where they just check if your brakes can stop within a prescribed distance?
An MOT is a test for road worthiness on the day. It's your responsibility to make sure the car is road worthy all year round.

Do yourself a favour and get a proper second opinion on your brakes.

They rely on cheap skates who don't maintain their car properly to take it in with lots of problem going for a cheap MOT deal and paying for additional work. Somebody only doing MOTs has the incentive to get as many done in a day as possible.

1000's of people had their car pass a mot at halfords this week with no problems and a few trolls here who don't even use halfords are voting cold, whats your point?

deal missed out on by those who'd rather pay double for no benefit

Your posts seem to point to the fact you have shares in halfrauds? or something along those lines. Either way it does not add up.

My grammar is terrible is it? sorry i did not know that i was writing to the king of the isle of man. Funny how you change the subject in hope for either 1. attention or 2. a b1tch fight. Im presuming there is nothing to do on the isle of man hence your total rubbish you post on these forums?.

Prove everywhere else is double so ie... £60??????? i paid £40, which is not double. But like i say tell me where everywhere else is double???

How in hell do you know 1000's pass there mot at halfrauds every week?????? wheres your facts??????? how do you get these facts without even living anywhere near a halfrauds???????

Could they all possible pass after you get bummed by a little repair bill? if your against that wheres your poof that doesnt happen???????? reviews say otherwise.

    Please explain???????

Back up your comments with proof mr know it all. If you cannot in your next post then go back to your cave and think of another forum to access to annoy people for no reason in your internet cafe.

If you're in London be very careful, especially with Halfords. It's harder to find good people in London for anything and car mechanics are no different. My dad took his one to one near him in Ealing with this deal and they destroyed his coil pack so the engine stumbled, changed brake discs and pads even though when he asked for the discs, they were well above legal and they tried to claim that a couple of very shallow grooves in just one of them were the issue. The car had just had a major service and was in perfect working order. If you complain hard enough they do appear to try and sort it out, in their defence, but seriously, Avoid like the plague.

You've obviously never seen the speed (or lack of) a council worker works at. :)

I was led to believe the MOT test time is logged on the VOSA computer. So it is not really possible to rush through the test in less than about 45 minutes.
Just paid £19.50 for my MOT at Peter Vardy. Passed no problem.

Get your car MOT'D and your wallet FLOCKED!!!!

I used this service last week, my car failed and they wanted to charge me £460 to put it right.
I went to my local garage (which don't do MOT's) showed them the itemized fail sheet which
had the cost of repair next to each problem.A few minutes later after a quick check on the computer
    he said £200 all in.
I had the work done took the car back for a retest (under the 10 days quoted on the MOT) after an hour
or so I got a call to say my car had passed.
I went to pick it up only to find a charge of £13.70 because they had to put it back on the ramp to check it out.

Follow up to my previous post re. Peter Vardy. Just had my car pass its MOT test this morning, £19.50. Wife's passed on Saturday, £19.50.
My car is a 9 year-old with 130000 on the clock. No dramatics from Peter Vardy regarding the couple of advisories, no attempt to have me get a quote for the work. Top marks as this is the second year I have taken advantage of their discounted MOT test pricing. Four cars passed at total cost of £78.
