Folks i would highly recommend 6pt socket sets as opposed to 12pt sockets. 6pt gives a lot more contact area and much less likely to round bolts.

Good find O.P.

Mary Poppins! oO I've just seen their 1/2" drive set too reduced to £25. Goes up to 34mm. :)

For oil and filter change on a car (which is all I would do) is this a good set for sizes. I also noticed there's 1/2 inch and 3/8 inch sets too for the same price

The 1/2" set is a great buy :)

What's that size particularly useful for?

I'd recommend the 3/8" or the 1/2" for sump plug and changing an oil filter. You would probably find less use for a 1/4" set for most jobs.

What's that size particularly useful for?

The size of the sockets? (wheel bearing nuts etc) or the actual ratchet and bars? (heavier duty fixings i.e driveshafts
bolts, suspension/brake component removal)

When paired with a 3/4" breaker bar and a 1/2" adapter you've got a good kit to tackle a broad spectrum of 'beefier' jobs :)

I agree with the above comment. 6pt sockets are far superior. These are 6pt. For a general socket set, 1/4 inch is too small though. I have a Halfords advanced set which includes 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. The 1/2 gets used mostly on my pickup truck but for my motorbike and project car (mr2) the 3/8 ratchet is the best all rounder. I actually broke this very 1/4 inch ratchet 2 weeks ago, I was removing a stubborn bolt holding a caliper on - should've used a bigger ratchet. I put a bar over it and wrenched down, the end twisted and broke off. Took it to Halfords the next day, straight replacement with it being the advanced range, no questions asked. It was priced at £20 to buy on its own!

I would always go with Halfords advanced, their tools are great an stand up to (most) jobs - plenty branches nationwide to swap tools over if they do break. The alternative is either cheap Chinese tools off ebay that don't last or paying a fortune for snap on - Which take longer to get replacements of if the tool breaks. Heat added. Go for the 3/8" set.

ordered not least for the lifetime guarantee. Can anyone help - this seems to be a draw system - but I can't find the draw unit. do halfords sell this too???

For the less wealthy that doesn't have a garage... :{
I've used the previous version of this set before, unfortunately the previous version had flimsier casing and that breaks after 1-2 years of use. This new version has better casing:

Its sad to say but a carry case is pretty important to keep the bits in order (my OCD agrees), I have a 1/2 socket version and used it for 7+ years already.

Does the box 'click' shut or anything? Otherwise I foresee lots of crawling around picking up sockets X)

I'm probably just overly clumsy, but my 1/4" set with a carry case seems to end up poured all over the floor every time I use it.

sump plugs can be tight so 3/8 for them and for oil filter buy one of the chain tools if you have room to get them in.

Had an email from Halfords about an extra 15% off from 12-8pm today. I'm hoping these are included as well.

Don't use a ratchet to break a stuck nut rather than using a bigger one is the key to not breaking them. That's what breaker bars are for ;)
Good to hear the warranty is good though, I have quite a few of the Halfords Advance range in my tool box

+ 3% Quidco

I've ordered 1/4 and 1/2 Drive sets for collection.

Great deal for both sets

Ordered for £21.75 + 3.15% TCB -- thanks, OP. :-)
I've got it reserved for payment and collection in-store starting next Tuesday, I hope they'll honour the 15% flash sale discount!

Good deal, I've got a couple of the smaller 1/4" sets which they have on offer occasionally, and it's a really handy little set which has taken a fair bit of abuse without failing.
On a separate note, the 1/2" set looks good for the price too but it is only 12 point rather than 6.

Doubt there's a decent lid, I think they're designed to fit into drawers liek this kind of thinghttp://www.sgs-engineering.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/s/t/stc1000_4.jpg
I'd be tempted to find a tool box that fitted this, or make my own lid, if I didnt have drawers.
great price OP
sorry this is a massive photo!
