The Halfords Pro range are excellent quality and are well up to industrial use.

Hot from Me. Had my Halfords Pro set for over 15 years, not one issue. Great quality and well worth the investment.

Scorching hot, I picked one up at this price just before christmas, and couldn't be happier. Will tackle just about anything you throw at it, a proper quality bit of kit.

Great kit, got one a few months back and it has pretty much anything you need. One bad thing about it: the case hinge is plastic and can break - mine has and I need to get me a replacement once I find the reciept....
Would not put off buying one just cos the case is broken, has pretty much all spanner/ratchets inc. bits, screwdriver with bits, allen keys and what-not, making it good for general use.

The quality of Halfords branded products are so poor normally I'd always have to think twice about buying anything from them, though people above do seem happy with this (as do ther reviewers on the site).

These are made by a quality manufacturer, can't remember which one, and they are very good. They are also sold under another brand to the auto-trade for more money. They may not be the very, very best but they are excellent professional quality and superb value for money.

Try this system which I devised.
Buy an A5 size page a day diary.
When you buy something, stick the receipt on the page for the day you bought it.
If neccessary, write the date the G'tee runns out beside it.
Then, in the front, on the page which says "year planner" write a short description ie ( socket set) of the item on the place for that day.

Then, when something goes wrong with the purchase, look it up in the planner and you can go straight to the receipt.
One diary can last more than one year.

Viola!....As they say in France.

My strategy is to have an expanding file folder, similar to this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Snopake-Zeon-Expanding-Organiser-Assorted/dp/B000SHU6D6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=officeproduct&qid=1272545096&sr=1-9, with sections labelled, Household, Appliances, Tech, Toys etc. I file each receipt, with warranty duration noted, into the relevant section and every now and then have a cull of the out of date. Works well, we were always losing receipts before I got it.

I am very tempted by this, £100 sounds pretty reasonable. Emmmm
#10
To be honest, It's a cracking price for the kit you get, but I've never seen this above £100 and personally wouldn't pay £200 for it.
#11
I asked for this for Xmas from the missus. It's often available at this price. All of the tools in the set have a lifetime guarantee. If they break take the broken one to Halfords and they'll swap it for a new one. I can't imagine how you'd break them though. Mine was used to completely strip a Clio engine to replace the pistons and the clutch and was brilliant. It's really well made and well thought out regarding the tools you actually need to do jobs on modern cars.
#12
This offer comes around again and again so no need to rush out to buy it this time. If you need such a set, I can vouch for the quality but I don't know anybody who has bought at full price. It's a bit like a half-price sofa sale in that respect - they may be asking £199 during some of the year but you'd be mad to pay it.
#13
These are quality kits, lifetime guarantee apparently too, although I've never had anything go wrong with the professional range :)

as others have said this is almost always reduced to 100 notes, the halfords professional range is good quality but bear in mind the lifetime guaranteee doesn't apply to moving parts so the ratchet, probably the first bit likely to break, isn't covered.
#16
Excellent quality these got a set before christmas.

Make sure you keep the fabric bit that goes inside. I chucked mine and now some of the sockets come out and move around. Also the plastic case comes away a little at the hinge but mine still stays together.

I would also recommend getting a halfords 7mm hex drive socket as the set only comes with 6mm and 8mm (amongst other sizes) and i find 7mm very handy for brakes on many common cars

Good kit, not a bad price, but nothing stunning. It's worth noting that despite the lifetime warranty you do need to present the receipt to get a replacement (that's apparently why the newer Hal Pro tools are stamped Halfords Professional Advanced, to distinguish them from the ones sold under the old warranty scheme). Also the warranty doesn't include moving parts (i.e. the ratchets), though ratchet repair packs are not expensive.
#18
This is *always* £99.99*, *always* discounted.

Doesn't make it a bad deal though.

A good deal, and I can vouch for the quality and longevity of my own set which I've had since 2004. I used to be big into mini's therefore the toolsgot a good bashing most of the time and as of yet I have not needed a replacement part of ratchet (though my useage has decreased over recent time).

Regarding the replacement of ratchets under the lifetime warrenty; I think this is a fair policy, and goes in line with what other tool brands do also. I'm sure if the set was not old and it was a genuinely faulty part, a store manager could use their discretion and offer a new ratchet etc as a good will gesture. However, outside of that the thing to bear in mind is, this is a reasonably priced set for £99.99. Now in 6 years I (and some friends with the set) have never managed to wear out the ratchets....In reality I would say that the ratchets will last for a long time with normal use and one of the possibilitys of them wearing out sooner would every day use (i..e mechanic use) and rightly that sort of daily use and abuse is not ideally what the set is intended for, certainly not for this price.

The issue of providing a recipet may be seen as a pain, and for most genuine people it can be. However from a retail point of view, there are a lot of stolen halfords tools in circulation (as a lot can be lifted/stolen directly off the shelf), and its these non-legit warrenty replacements that the company is trying to stop I pressume.

Just my two cents :P

I've got this set, I bought it when it was £200 but I used a friends trade card which bought it down to £97, even on the offer the trade card only brings it down to £97.

The Set is good quality much better than most typical DIY stuff. It doesn't quite have the feel of snap-on though (it's not far behind though)

The cardboard packaging it comes in worried me as it's covered in badly written english with spelling mistakes etc, so seemed like cheap chinese rubbish - but luckily the tools were much better.

As said above the ratchet mechanisms aren't covered but they do seem to be good, and they sell repair kits for about a fiver.

I've had to buy a few things to add to it, such as 1/2 -> 3/8 adapter and 3/8 -> 1/4 adapter, and an 8mm multi spline socket (it only has hex for 8mm)

They make the numbers up by including lots of small torx bits and allen keys.

Overall I'm happy with the set and it's priced well at £100 but it's not worth £200

I agree, I bought this a month or so ago and I think it has been £99 since at least Xmas, not sure how they get away with these so called 'reductions' TBH.

Having said the above it is a pretty good quality set and well worth £100

Good gear, excellent price - well worth the investment.

Although I bought this a month ago for £99.99 to replace the old set that I had nicked by local scrotes a few months back. And I only paid £99.99 for that set too.

I heard rumours that they were made 'in the same factory as' Snap-on? Probably an urban myth, but they ARE good quality.

Halfords replaced my knackered 1/2in ratchet no questions asked last winter.

Sorry fella, gonna have to disagree with you there.

The professional range from Halfords is on par with the some of the top manufacturers of tools including Snap-On.

The lifetime warranty is also good backup should a tool fail. You will need to keep your proof of purchase, and as already mentioned, it does not cover moving parts such as the ratchet mechanism.

Already own the 120 peice kit (i think it is) this set didn't really add much except a large number of torx bits etc.

It has been £99.99 for a long time now, but is good value for certain :)

Excellent set. I got one at christmas and the quality has exceeded my expectations. A good idea for the receipt is to photocopy it and keep it in a plastic bag in the clip behind the screwdriver etc bits box inside the case. I also bought the 1/2 to 3/8 and 3/8 to1/4 adapters for £4.49 to complete the set. As mentioned already, dont throw the sponge liner away as this helps hold the sockets etc in place.

Although I am a regular Quidco user, I'm unsure as to what this refers to....

As many above have said, this often comes around at half price.

However, wait for a bank holiday weekend (is there one soon!?) and Halfords often have a 15% discount.

I got my set for £87, not sure if I combined it with an order online, collect locally discount as well.

I only recently just bought one :) Great buy, I'd reccomend

I love the way people claim they're always this price, they aren't. They're always £199 appart from the 1-2 times a year they offer them at half price, usually once in the summer and once in the winter and they've been doing this for years. The quality is fantastic for once and well worth the money at £99.99.

I've replaced many a pro piece without a receipt, walk in ... this is broke ... here's a new one ... thanks, bye.

And this isn't due to inferior quality, they just get a massive amount of use and various other tools can be "created" with a bit of imagination which puts stress on tools in some sections not intended shall we say.

Top kit indeed. I dropped snap-on for these tbh.

Yeah and I need to buy a decent set this weekend to do some work on my car :(
Does anyone know of any other good socket/ratchet sets around at the moment? Don't really want to spend £120 if I can help it!

Did you get them to replace the case? Mine broke too bud didn't think it would be covered
