Slightly inflated original price, but seems okay at £30 - could also combine with the professional screwdriver set or the socket set and save extra.

They are very good I have a set...Well worth the extra money than the cheap £7 sets you can get

Halfords guarantees are worth nothing in my experience. Good price though.

Hardly, unless they go bust they'll not want all their advertising budget busted because some tools failed and the customer received some poor service.

A large number of their customers receive poor service, the internet is crammed full of experiences. It won't cause them to go bust. Sadly.

People will always complain about poor service, people rarely praise good service. The internet is full of poor experiences for everything if you search for it.

On the Pro tools it's lifetime - you can't really get much better!!

Thanks for that revelation, who would have thought it. Anyway, I shall stick with my "good price though" comment of earlier and leave those who want it to go an purchase it from any one of numerous illiterate morons employed by Halfords.
#11
as far as I'm aware Halfords do not guarantee ratchet devices further than your statutory rights.

Seem to remember seeing a thread on here when someone bought the professional tool kit range. So check the small print if you're expecting a "life time warranty"

Why would Halfords pay more for better-qualified staff for a position where they don't need the training?

I also believe this is correct, the ratchets are not covered.

I have this set, got it on November, love it. Halfords' Pro Advanced stuff is well worth having.

Exactly. Only very popular sites have good and bad experience imo.

Look at americas computer parts site http://www.newegg.com

filled with good and bad reviews on all products.

I recently bought a professional ratchet that failed. I took it back and they guy said halfords no longer has a lifetime guarantee on tools with moving parts. i.e. ratchets. They used to but not any more.
#16
For what it's worth the Halford's guarantee is a bit misleading. First thing to remember is keep your receipt otherwise you'll get nowhere! Otherwise be aware the guarantee does not cover torsional damage (I.e. twisting and turning) so if a socket, ratchet, bit piece, spanner etc etc is damaged in normal use then you're not covered. Something to think about! Personally I do alright though as i'm in so regularly they're nicer to me!
#18
I looks like there have been a number of changes at Halfords and Dangermoose 5 is right they do not cover moving parts ratchets etc. As for the lifetime Gtee you now also have to produce the reciept when claiming on the lifetime warranty just another Halfrauds get out.

Not a revelation i'm simply saying googling poor service is pointless as somebody, somewhere will always be moaning about something to do with poor service, poor products, poor experience etc etc
#20
we did have a problem with a item in the proffesional range and it was replaced no questions asked and no hassle
#22
I've had a few tools replaced from Halfords Pro tools range on their lifetime guarantee with no issues including sockets, a breaker bar and hex bits... guess I've been lucky.

I was just wondering whether this is part of their range which guarentees for life?

I've heard good things about the professional range, but the ambiguous warranty has put me off in this case.

Halfords Advanced Professional Hand Tools come with a Lifetime Guarantee.
Should a Halfords Advanced Professional Hand Tool fail whilst being used for the purpose and in the manner for which it was designed, it will be inspected and replaced. Simply return the product to your nearest Halfords store with proof of purchase and we will arrange a replacement for you.

Proof of purchase is required to validate the Lifetime Guarantee.
Misuse of the product will immediately invalidate the Lifetime Guarantee.
Moving parts are not covered for wear and tear under this guarantee.
Discontinued items will be replaced with an equivalent product in terms of use and quality.
This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.

A little ambiguous and probably renders the warranty useless in this case - like offering a warranty on a car and then saying it's invalid if you drive it. Although you'd have to argue if a ratchet went inside 10 years then it's a failure rather than wear and tear.

Caveat emptor as always.

I just HAVE to defend Halfords I have been to many stores all over the country for different things inc many of there pro tools. The mainly young people that serve me have always been polite and helpful, they never talk down to me and have gone out of their way to be helpful.

Not ALL Halfords products are the best quality but the quality tools are certainly available, I have tested the guarantee on the pro range with several well used & abused torx bits.....they were exchanged without question!

So IMO keep up the good work halfords
#26
I didn't mention the quality of any of their products. I was referring to the waste of breath guarantees, idiotic staff and let's add their prices to the mix. If you need more, try their reserve and collect service - when you arrive the first hurdle is that they know nothing about it and if you get past that one, they haven't got any in stock anyway.

Keep up the good work indeed!
#27
i hate halfrauds but i got a big socket set from them a few years ago and its great, quality tools. Cost a fortune tho.

If you dont like Halfords, then why go there and why come on here moaning about them? I am not defending Halford's one bit. Personally i only use them for the 'essentials' that i need quickly or can't get anywhere else. If i needed a bike inner tube or some oil for eg.

I don't like Halfords and that is my opinion. You may have a different opinion. I'm sharing mine and you are sharing yours. This site accommodates opinions that differ from yours. Why the cross examination?

Not cross examining, just wondering why you are posting on a Halfords deal if you hate them so much. It is a good deal and the product has nothing to do with the service you receive and your slanderous comments that all the staff are idiotic.

Not slanderous, libelous if anything! I can prove it in about 12 seconds in any store, I think I'd be ok.

I don't hate them, actually my view isn't far from yours, if I know what I want and I can't wait for Amazon to deliver I'd go to Halfords. I wouldn't ask for advice, I wouldn't let the price upset me too much and I wouldn't reserve for collection. Happy days!

I took back a ratchet spanner because the ratchet felt slightly rougher than the others, which were all really smooth action. The spanner worked perfectly but just felt slightly wrong. It was changed without question, as others have said. Some of the staff are more helpful and knowledgeable than others, but I wouldn't be particularly enthusiastic in a dead end thankless job that paid minimum wage either.

Lacks the common 14mm for some stupid reason, despite having some much rarer sizes in there. Also I would go for ones with a flexible handle instead, because the whole point of ratchet spanners is to get into tight spots.

no point in posting how crap halfords are on a AV forum.........What youre basically saying is to inform people of their customer service, reliability, guarentee tc, you need to go to a completely different site??????? Utter rubbish.

This is the correct place to post both criticism and praises as it lets the potential customers know what they are getting in to, whether there is an inherent problem with a particular branch or how to manage yourself if in the unfortunate event you need to give anything back.

I have used halfords in the past and have not had a problem with them but that doesnt mean i dont want to know about any problems that others may have had.

these ratchet spanners are always on offer i bought a set 6 years ago and the offers still going

On the box and also if you check the same product but with the extra spanners that was posted on this deal (link below) and then click on user comments or whatever the tab is. It will say officially from Halfords that ratchets are not in their life time warranty.

im also gonna stick up for halfords yeah most of the staff have no idea what there on about but there tools are great and im sure i once heard there made by stahlwille and just rebranded.

gauarantee is good for normal use. ive had to take back a hex bit because it had twisted and snaped and they just went and got one out of the cupboard and handed it over no questions had to show my proof of purchase tho and no it doesnt cover ratchets (because some idiots undo stuck bolts with a ratchet and then wounder why it doesnt work anymore) but if u do have a ratchet break under wear and tear or just bad luck for getting a duff one the mechanisms are about £4 to replace

so basicaly aslong as ur using the tool for what its meant for dont worry about the gaurentee.
#39
I've been using Halfords Pro tools for the past 15 years, and in that time I have stripped many engines down. I once broke the mechanism on a ratchet but Halfords replaced it on production of the receipt. To be honest I was putting far to much torque on a bolt that wouldn't budge and although I was glad they replaced it I wouldn't of been unhappy at buying the repair kit they do for them. I even bought my girlfriend the 60 piece set that was on offer as she has shown an interest on maintaining her car herself. These tools really will last a lifetime as long as your treat them right ;)

Its a good job you backed that up with the fact she wanted one. Can just imagine the look on my mrs face if i bought her a set X)
